1. Spain Triumphs in Women’s FIFA World Cup for the First Time

  • Spain won their inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, beating England at Sydney’s Accor Stadium.
  • Spain joins Germany as the only two countries to have claimed titles in both men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups.
  • With this win, the Spanish women’s national team, also known as La Roja, becomes the first squad to simultaneously hold world titles in U-17, U-20, and the senior categories. They are the fifth team to win in the nine-time history of the Women’s World Cup.
  • The match-winning goal was scored by Spanish captain Olga Carmona in the first half.

2. Gold Medal for India’s Anahat Singh in Asian Junior Squash Championships

  • Anahat Singh of India captured the gold medal in the U-17 division at the 2023 Asian Junior Squash Individual Championships in China, defeating Hong Kong’s Ena Kwong.
  • Anahat had previously won a bronze in the U-13 category in Macau in 2019.
  • She was also the champion in the U-11 at the British Junior Open Squash and secured the U-13 title at the Dutch Junior Open Squash in 2019.
  • In 2021, she advanced to the quarter-finals of the Indian Open held in Noida.

3. YES BANK Rolls Out ‘Iris’ for Advanced Digital Banking in India

  • YES BANK has launched ‘Iris by YES BANK’, a new mobile application aimed at transforming digital banking in India.
  • The app offers a high degree of customization and more than 100 functionalities on a single platform.
  • To ensure top-notch security, the app incorporates features like Biometric Authentication, Sim-Binding, and Two-Factor Verification.
  • The bank is under the leadership of Managing Director & CEO Prashant Kumar.

4. HDFC Group Introduces New Services in Life Insurance and Asset Management

  • The HDFC Group has unveiled new life insurance and asset management services at the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in Gujarat.
  • The goal is to provide services to NRIs and the global Indian community.
  • HDFC Life and HDFC AMC International (IFSC) Ltd have been launched to meet the financial needs of the global Indian community with world-class foreign currency insurance solutions.

5. Rahul Dravid Named as BPCL’s Brand Ambassador

  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), India’s second-biggest oil marketing company, has appointed cricket great and current Indian cricket team Head Coach Rahul Dravid as its brand ambassador.
  • Dravid will endorse BPCL’s ‘Pure for Sure’ campaign and its MAK range of lubricants.
  • BPCL has refineries in Bina, Kochi, and Mumbai and was the 309th largest public-sector enterprise globally in 2020.

6. New Record-Setting Motorable Road Under Construction in Ladakh

  • The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has started constructing the ‘Likaru-Mig La-Fukche’ road in Ladakh with the aim to set a new world record.
  • The project aims to build the world’s highest drivable road at an approximate altitude of 19,400 feet, surpassing Umling La Pass.
  • The road will provide a new connection from Hanle to the CDFD road at Fukche.

7. WHO Announces Global Initiative on Digital Health

  • In association with the G20 India presidency, the World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced a new Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) during the Health Minister’s Meeting at the G20 Summit.
  • The initiative will act as a WHO-managed network to aid the implementation of the Global Strategy on Digital Health from 2020 to 2025.
  • WHO is committed to assisting countries in strengthening their digital health capacities and improving access to quality-assured digital solutions.
