1. Tejas Express flagged off

  • India’s first technologically advanced train has commenced its journey from May 22.
  • It will run from Mumbai to Goa.
  • The train is equipped with modern facilities such as CCTV cameras and smoke-and-fire detection system.
  • The train is developed by Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala.
  • Tejas Express train will cost 20 per cent more than the Shatabdi Express.

2. Japan to build war museum in Manipur for Japanese soldiers

  • Japan’s Ambassador said that Japan will build a war museum at Maibam Lokpa Ching in Manipur’s Bishenpur district.
  • MaibamLokpa Ching is a historical place where the British and the Japanese fought during the Second World War.
  • About 70,000 Japanese soldiers laid down their lives in the Imphal and Kohima battles, which are regarded as the fiercest.
  • On special occasions, relatives of the Japanese soldiers who died during the war, come to Manipur in memory of their loved ones.

3. Good Morning squad to curb open defecation.

  • The Maharashtra government has decided to form ‘good morning’ squads to curb open defecation in all villages and districts across the State.
  • The members of the squads have been asked to monitor areas where the practice is still prevalent.
  • The squads will comprise representatives of local bodies, self-help groups, NGOs, students and social workers working in the area of sanitation and cleanliness.
  • They have also been authorized to report to the civic bodies areas that have no access to toilets.

4. Three Indian brands in top 50 luxury good firms.

  • Indian brands Gitanjali Gems, Titan and PC Jeweller have been named in the list of top 50 luxury goods firms globally.
  • The report noted that the world’s 100 largest luxury goods companies generated sales of $212 billion in 2014-15.
  • The list was topped by Louis Vuitton.

1. 1st Indian-born woman elected to City of London Corporation.

  • Rehana Ameer, A 43-year-old UK entrepreneur has become the first India-born woman to be elected as a councillor to a ward in the UK.
  • She was elected as a councillor to the Court of Common Council, becoming the first India-born woman to be elected to the City of London Corporation.
  • She aims to promote the city’s businesses in international markets and develop the city’s presence overseas.

2. Rodrigo Duterte bans smoking in public.

  • Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order banning smoking in public, creating one of the strictest anti-tobacco laws.
  • The ban carries a maximum penalty of 4 months in jail and fine of 5,000 pesos.

1. NASA, ISRO to jointly make most expensive imaging satellite.

  • NASA and ISRO will jointly develop and launch the world’s biggest and most expensive earth imaging satellite, costing $1.5 billion.
  • The satellite has been named NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR).
  • It will this is two frequency RADAR, it is an L-band 24 centimetre RADAR and S-band 13 centimetre.
  • The satellite will take weekly snapshots of earth, using the two radars, that will provide time lapse images of the motion of tectonic plates, ice sheets and changes in vegetation over land in agriculture and forests.

2. Astronomers make the largest map of the Universe.

  • Astronomers have created the first map of the large-scale structure of the Universe based entirely on the positions of quasars.
  • Quasars are the incredibly bright and distant points of light powered by supermassive black holes.
  • Because quasars are so bright, we can see them all the way across the Universe, that makes them the ideal objects to use to make the biggest map yet.

  • Real Madrid defeated Malaga 2-0 to clinch their record 33rd La Liga title.
  • This is their first win after 5 year gap.

  • Mumbai Indians painted the city blue as they clinched an astonishing 1-run victory over Rising Pune Supergiant in the final.
