1. Direct Benefit transfer of subsidies

  • Direct benefit transfer of subsidies has crossed Rs 3-lakh crore mark in 2018-19.
  • Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT is an attempt to change the mechanism of transferring subsidies launched by Government of India on 1 January 2013. This program aims to transfer subsidies directly to the people through their bank accounts.

3. Emergency Helpline Number 112

  • Single Emergency Helpline Number 112 (PAN-India) has joined by 20 states and Union territories.
  • The helpline, ‘112’ is an integration of police (100), fire (101) and women (1090) helpline numbers.
  • It comes under Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).

1. Ukrainian Presidential Election

  • Volodymyr Zelenskiy has won a landslide victory in Presidential Election of Ukraine.
  • Vladimir Zelensky is a Ukrainian politician, screenwriter, actor, comedian, director and president-elect of Ukraine. Prior to his political career, he obtained a degree in law and created the company Kvartal 95, which produces films, cartoons and TV comedy shows.

2. World Intellectual Property Day

  • World Intellectual Property Day will be observed annually on 26 April.
  • The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to “raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life” and “to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe”.
  • 26 April was chosen as the date for World Intellectual Property Day because it coincides with the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.

3. India’s next Ambassador to Lebanon

  • Suhel Ajaz Khan has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Lebanon.
  • Lebanon, officially known as the Lebanese Republic, is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south, while Cyprus is west across the Mediterranean Sea.

4. Lorraine Warren passes away

  • Paranormal Investigator Lorraine Warren has passed away at 92.
  • Edward Warren Miney and Lorraine Rita Warren were American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of hauntings. Edward was a World War II United States Navy veteran and former police officer who became a self-taught and self-professed demonologist, author, and lecturer.
  • Famous horror movies like ‘Amityville Horror’ and ‘Conjuring’ were inspired by her work.

1. Tata Consultancy Services with Department of Posts

  • TCS has partnered with Department of Posts in a bid to transform it into a multi-service digital hub and to enhance Mail Delivery System in India.
  • The Department of Posts, trading as India Post, is a government-operated postal system in India, which is part of the Ministry of Communications of the Government of India. Generally called “the post office” in India, it is the most widely distributed postal system in the world.
  • Tata Consultancy Services Limited is an Indian multinational information technology service and consulting company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a subsidiary of Tata Group and operates in 46 countries. TCS is the second largest Indian company by market capitalization.

2. Reliance Retail

  • Reliance Retail has become First Retail Company in India to Cross Rs.1 Lakh Crore Annual Revenue.
  • Reliance Retail Limited is a subsidiary company of Reliance Industries Limited. Founded in 2006, it is the largest retailer in India in terms of revenue. Founder of Reliance Retail is Mukesh Ambani and V Subramaniam is CEO.

3. Cleveland International Hall of fame

  • Sree Sreenath has been inducted into ‘Cleveland International Hall of fame’.
  • Sree Sreenath is an Indian-American scientist and social activist and was awarded for his contribution in applications in systems biology, global issues, and sustainable development.

4. Binance Chain

  • Cryptocurrency Exchange Binance has launched its own blockchain titled ‘Binance Chain’.
  • Binance is a global cryptocurrency exchange that provides a platform for trading more than 100 cryptocurrencies. Since early 2018, Binance is considered as the biggest cryptocurrency exchange in the world in terms of trading volume.
  • A cryptocurrency is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses strong cryptography to secure financial transactions, control the creation of additional units, and verify the transfer of assets.

1. Asian Athletics Championships

  • The Asian Athletics Championships is an event organized by the Asian Athletics Association. The competition courted controversy with the International Association of Athletics Federations when political in-fighting arose due to the barring of Israel from participation in 1977.
  • The 2019 Asian Athletics Championships will be the 23rd edition of the Asian Athletics Championships.
  • It has started in Doha, Qatar.
  • Tejinder Pal Singh Toor in Shotput and Gomathi Marimuthu in Women’s 800 meters have won Gold Medal in that.

2. Monte-Carlo Masters Tennis tournament

  • The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, a commune that borders on Monaco. The event is part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 on the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour.
  • Fabio Fognini of Italy has won Monte Carlo Masters by defeating Dusan Lajovic of Serbia.

3. Asia Badminton Championships

  • The Asia Badminton Championships will begin at Wuhan in China.
  • India will be represented by Kidambi Srikanth and Sameer Verma in men’s singles and P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in women’s singles.
