- The scheme was launched on the occasion of late CM Jayalalithaa’s 70th birth anniversary.
- Women with an annual income of less than Rs.2.5 lakh can avail 25% subsidy or Rs.25,000 on the purchase of a two-wheeler.
2. Man builds toilets out of Thermocol in Maharashtra
- Ramdas Mane builds toilets out of Thermocol with cement coating in 2 hrs.
- Mane’s company has built over 22,000 toilets all over India.
3. Shouldn’t kill innovation for privacy : Minister
- Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said innovation should be killed in the name of privacy.
- He said the govt is ensuring that no one is excluded from welfare schemes for lack of Aadhaar.
International News
1. 23 killed in multiple attacks in Afghanistan
- A Taliban attack on a military base in Farah province killed 18 soldiers.
- Separate attacks in Helmand province claimed the lives of two soldiers.
2. US stops calling itself a ‘nation of immigrants’
- The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has dropped the phrase ‘nation of immigrants’ from its mission statement.
- The move is being criticised as a reflection of President Donald Trump’s policies against the entry of immigrants into the US.
3. US announces ‘largest-ever’ sanctions against N Korea
- The sanctions will target more than 50 vessels, shipping companies and trade businesses assisting N Korea in evading sanctions.
- The US has been imposing sanctions to put pressure on N Korea over its nuclear and ballistic missile programme.

1. BMW recalls 11,700 cars after installing wrong software
- BMW discovered that an update was mistakenly assigned to certain unsuitable model versions.
- However, the software was correctly developed, BMW mentioned.
2. RBI Guv must resign over PNB fraud : Bank employees’ union
- AIBEA has said the RBI Governor Urjit Patel should take up moral responsibility for PNB fraud and resign from his post.
- It added this indicates the failure of RBI in non-monitoring the account of PNB’s fraud hit Mumbai branch.
3. Dropbox files for IPO of up to $500 mn
- Dropbox revealed it incurred net losses of $111.7 mn in 2017 from $210.2 mn in 2016.
- Dropbox was founded by MIT alumni Arash Ferdowsi and Drew Houston.

1. India presented with ICC Test mace for 2nd successive year
- Virat Kohli received the mace on behalf of Team India for being the number one Test team.
- India have been at the top since October 2016.
2. India Women beat SA Women in 5th T20I
- India clinch the series with 3-1.
- Mithali Raj was named Player of the Series.
