1. Advanced System of Air Quality ‘SAFAR’

  • Environment Minister launched a state-of-the-art Air Quality and Weather Forecast System– ‘SAFAR’ (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting), New Delhi.
  • ‘SAFAR’ was developed and implemented by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune and India Meteorological Department (IMD).

2. AICTE chairman

  • Prof. Anil D Sahasrabuddhe has been reappointed as AICTE chairman.
  • All India Council of Technical Education is founded in November, 1945. Headquarters – New Delhi.

3. Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project

  • Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for development under Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project.
  • 17 sites: Uttar Pradesh- TajMahal & FatehpurSikri; Maharashtra- Ajanta & Ellora; Delhi- Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort & QutubMinar; Goa- Colva beach; Rajasthan- Amer Fort.
  • Gujarat- Somnath & Dholavira; Madhya Pradesh- Khajuraho; Karnataka- Hampi; Tamil Nadu- Mahabalipuram; Assam- Kaziranga; Kerala- Kumarakom; Bihar- Mahabodhi.

4. e-Pragati platform

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister launches e-Pragati platform for the governance of the state.
  • It is digital platform – to digitalise the state and bring transparency in governance.

International News

1. Android Dev Summit on November 7-8

  • Google announced Android Dev Summit to be held on 7-8 November in Mountain view, California.
  • Founded on 4th September, 1998 ,Headquarters – Mount View, California, USA , CEO – Sundar Pichai

2. International Army Games

  • Indian Army team has reached Moscow to participate in the International Army games scheduled from July 28 to August 11.
  • The Army games are organised annually by Russia and this year 28 competitions will be held in seven countries including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Iran and Kazakhstan and Russia.

3. Inflation in Venezuela might hit 1,000,000% high

  • IMF forecasted that the economy to shrink 18 percent in 2018 ,the third consecutive year of double-digit contractions — as oil production falls significantly.
  • Venezuela is a country on the northern coast of South America with diverse natural attractions. Currency: Venezuelan bolívar ,Capital: Caracas.

Business News

1. IT services company Syntel sold to France’s Atos

  • French IT major Atos acquired Syntel for $3.4 Billion.
  • The acquisition will leverage India talent pool as Syntel has 18,000 Indian employees while Atos has been in the present in the country since 1991.

2. Consolidation of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs)

  • The Government to consult with respective State Governments and Sponsor Banks on a roadmap for Amalgamation of RRBs within a State.
  • In consultation with NABARD and proposes to bring down the number of RRBs to 38 from the present 56.

3. Govt reduced minimum yearly deposit for Sukanya Samriddhi account

  • The minimum annual deposit amount for the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) account is Rs 250 from Rs 1,000.
  • Sukanya Samriddhi scheme was launched in January 2015, under which a parent or legal guardian can open an account in the name of the girl child until she attains the age of ten years.

Sports News

1. Junior Asian Wrestling Championship

  • India won 8 medals(2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze) in the Junior Asian Wrestling Championship, New Delhi.
  • Iran topped the championship.India finished at second while Uzbekistan is at third.

2. 15th National youth athletics championships

  • In women’s 400 metres hurdles, Priya{Kerala) crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 1:02.52 seconds
  • In Shot Put, Dhanvir threw 19.69m in his fifth attempt.

3. Rugby World Cup

  • New Zealand become the current world champions in Rugby World Cup.
  • New Zealand defeated England in final with 33-12.
