1. Kiptum from Kenya Triumphs in London Marathon with Near-Record Time
- Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum clinched victory at the London Marathon, marking the marathon’s second-quickest run ever.
- He achieved a groundbreaking time of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 25 seconds, narrowly falling short of Eliud Kipchoge’s world record by a mere 16 seconds.
- In the women’s category, the marathon saw Sifan Hassan, originally from Ethiopia but now representing the Netherlands, make a victorious marathon debut with a finish time of 2:18:34.
- In the men’s elite wheelchair division, Marcel Hug of Switzerland emerged victorious, clocking in at 1:23:44.

2. Projects Valued at Rs 17,000 crore Initiated by PM Modi in Madhya Pradesh
- The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has embarked on the commencement and inauguration of various projects in Madhya Pradesh, collectively worth over Rs 17,000 crores.
- A significant move included the launch of the unified e-Gram Swaraj and GeM portal tailored for Panchayat-level public procurement.
- Goal: Facilitating Panchayats in showcasing and trading their products and services on the GeM platform.
- Under the Swamitva scheme, nearly 35 lakh property cards have been handed over, leading to a nationwide distribution of approximately 1.25 crore cards under the initiative.
3. 10,000 km of ‘Digital Highways’ Slated for Development by NHAI by 2025
- A target to construct around 10,000 kilometres of Optic Fibre Cables (OFC) networks across the nation by the end of the fiscal year 2025 has been set by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
- National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), an NHAI subsidiary, is charged with overseeing this ambitious project which envisions the inception of “digital highways” through the establishment of integrated utility passages alongside national highways to lay Optic Fibre Cables.
- Initial phases are set to be implemented along 512 km of the Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor and 1,367 km of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
- This OFC initiative will not only boost internet access to the country’s remote areas but will also pave the way for next-gen telecommunication advancements, such as the 5G & 6G networks.
- The Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot segment of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, spanning 246 km, was recently unveiled. This stretch includes a dedicated 3-meter utility space designated for optic fibre cable installation, which is instrumental in facilitating the 5G network in that zone.

4. National Panchayati Raj Day 2023 Celebrated on 24 April
- Every 24th of April, India observes National Panchayati Raj Day, honouring the constitutional amendment that paved the way for the formation of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
- Recognized as the governance’s third layer, PRIs oversee administrative tasks at the grassroots level in rural locales.
- The inaugural Panchayati Raj mechanism came into existence in 1993.
- The 2023 edition is themed “Sustainable Panchayat: Building Healthy, Water Sufficient, Clean & Green Villages”.
