  • David Malpass, the current World Bank President, is set to vacate his position in June, prior to his tenure’s scheduled completion in April 2024.
  • Ajay Banga’s nomination recognizes his expertise in tackling global challenges, especially concerning climate change.
  • He presently serves as the Vice Chairman at the private equity company, General Atlantic.
  • Remarkably, if the nomination receives approval, Banga would be the first Indian-born individual to assume this prestigious position.

2. Churchgate Station Renaming in Honor of RBI’s First Governor

  • Mumbai’s Churchgate railway station will soon be renamed ‘Chintamanrao Deshmukh station’, paying tribute to Chintaman Dwarkanath Deshmukh, the first Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
  • This renaming decision was concluded during the initial national executive session of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena segment, which the Election Commission acknowledges as the authentic Shiv Sena.
  • Chintaman Dwarkanath Deshmukh commenced his role as the RBI Governor in February 1943, holding the position until 1949.

4. Bhutan Welcomes Its First Digital Citizen: 7-Year-Old Prince

  • Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, at seven years of age, has been designated as Bhutan’s premier digital citizen.
  • He was bestowed with the National Digital Identity (NDI) mobile wallet, signifying a monumental phase in Bhutan’s transition towards a Self-Sovereign Identity framework for digital identities.
  • Directed by GovTech, this project is tailored to offer citizens with secure and authenticated digital identities, thus refining service provision across public and private sectors.

5. MoU Between Abu Dhabi Defence Firm and India’s HAL

  • At the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX), EDGE, a leading UAE defense organization, formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), an Indian aerospace conglomerate.
