1. Retirement Benefits Changes for IAS, IPS, and IFOS Pensioners:

  • The central government has revised the retirement benefit regulations for Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and Indian Forest Service officers.
  • The changes grant the central government the discretion to penalize pensioners by either withholding or removing their pension, even without state government’s intervention, especially if they’re implicated in serious misconduct or crimes, notably those under the Official Secrets Act.

2. Rajya Sabha’s Historic Nomination:

  • The Rajya Sabha’s Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankar, has designated four female MPs as vice-chairpersons. PT Usha, Phangnon Konyak, Fauziya Khan of the NCP, and Sulata Deo from the Biju Janta Dal are among those nominated.
  • This marks a significant moment, ensuring equal gender representation in the vice-chairpersons panel.

3. Cinematograph Amendment Bill 2023:

  • Addressing the substantial loss (around Rs. 18k crore in 2019) faced by the Indian film industry due to piracy, a new bill proposing modifications to the Cinematograph Bill 1952 has been presented in the Rajya Sabha.

  • A memorial named “V.C Yeshwant Ghadge Sundial Memorial” was unveiled in Montone, Perugia, Italy.
