53rd GST Council Meeting Details
The 53rd session of the GST Council was held in New Delhi, presided over by the Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. Attendees included the Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, Chief Ministers from Goa and Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Ministers from Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha, along with Finance Ministers from various States and Union Territories that have legislative bodies, and high-ranking officials from both the Ministry of Finance and regional governments.
India Introduces E-Medical Visa for Bangladesh Citizens
During a meeting in New Delhi on June 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the initiation of an e-medical visa for citizens of Bangladesh seeking medical treatment in India. Additionally, a new consulate will be established in Rangpur, Bangladesh, to better serve the northwest area of the country.
New Legislation to Prevent Exam Paper Leaks
The government has enacted a robust law to combat the leaking of examination papers in the wake of the NEET and UGC-NET exam controversies. Effective from June 21, 2024, the law includes harsh penalties for offenders, with punishments of up to 10 years in prison and fines reaching Rs 1 crore.
