1. Microsoft’s New Feature: ‘Bing Image Creator’

  • Microsoft has unveiled its ‘Bing Image Creator’ in the latest previews of Bing and Edge. This feature, backed by an enhanced version of OpenAI’s DALL-E model, enables users to generate images simply by describing them in words.
  • The ‘Bing Image Creator’, now part of Bing chat, is being rolled out to Bing preview users. Moreover, this tool can be accessed in Microsoft Edge using the Image Creator icon in the sidebar on both mobile and desktop devices, exclusively in English.
  • Integration of Image Creator with Edge, via a new Bing button in chat, will be available in the upcoming Edge preview version.

2. UIDAI and SETS Collaboration on R&D in Advanced Technologies

  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered with the Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (SETS) to spearhead joint R&D. This collaboration aims to create tools and products in cutting-edge tech fields.
  • Both entities will jointly investigate areas such as Cyber Security and IoT Security.
  • Objective: Boosting domestic expertise in information and cyber security, while reducing reliance on foreign-developed tools.

3. India Triumphs in Asian Kho Kho Championship 2023

  • Serving as the host nation, India secured victories in both the men’s and women’s categories during the Asian Kho Kho Championship 2023 held in Tamulpur, Assam.
  • In the female category, the Indian team bested Nepal with a margin of an inning and 33 points.
  • Similarly, the male team outperformed Nepal, leading by an inning and six points.
  • India maintained an unbeaten record in both segments of the competition.
  • Nine countries took part in this championship.

4. Laxman Narasimhan: Starbucks’ New CEO

  • Laxman Narasimhan, of Indian descent, has taken over the leadership reins of Starbucks, succeeding its founder, Howard Schultz.
  • Before this new role, Narasimhan was at the helm of Reckitt, a company owning notable brands such as Lysol, Durex, and Mucinex, and had earlier held multiple senior positions at PepsiCo.
  • Founded in 1971, Starbucks boasts more than 34,000 outlets globally.

5. Observing World Tuberculosis Day on 24 March

  • Every year, 24 March is dedicated to World Tuberculosis Day.
  • Purpose: To amplify global awareness about tuberculosis and motivate prompt initiatives to curb the TB epidemic.
  • Recognized as a highly contagious and potentially fatal ailment, its 2023 theme is “Yes! We can end TB!”
  • The inaugural World TB Day took place in 1982, marking a century since Dr. Robert Koch identified the TB-causing bacterium. The day now serves as a key platform to enlighten the masses about TB’s signs, spread, and prevention.
