  • In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as “National Voters’ Day”.

  • The annual report on carbon reduction activities, Carbon Disclosure Project 2019 report was released by the London based global non-profit organization CDP Worldwide Company.
  • The report has ranked countries as per their responsibilities taken by the corporate business towards carbon reduction.

3. Governor of Bank of England

  • Andrew Bailey is named as Bank of England Governor to guide through Brexit.
  • Andrew John Bailey is a British central banker, who was Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from April 2013 to July 2016.
  • The Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom and the model on which most modern central banks have been based. Established in 1694 to act as the English Government’s banker, and still one of the bankers for the Government of the United Kingdom, it is the world’s eighth-oldest bank.

4. UN’s International Labour Organization report

  • According to UN’s International Labour Organization report, Global unemployment is projected to increase by around 5 million in 2020.
  • The International Labour Organization is a United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance social justice and promote decent work by setting international labour standards. It was the first specialised agency of the UN.

  • National Payments Corporation of India has launched a blockchain-technology based payment system ‘Vajra Platform’.

2. Cardless cash withdrawal by ICICI Bank

  • ICICI Bank has rolled out “Cardless Cash Withdrawal” service through ATM with a daily limit of Rs 20000.

3. Head of RBS India

  • Punit Sood has been appointed as the Head of Royal Bank of Scotland India.
  • The Royal Bank of Scotland, commonly abbreviated as RBS, is one of the retail banking subsidiaries of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc, together with NatWest and Ulster Bank.

4. m-pesa’s certificate of authorisation is cancelled

  • Vodafone m-pesa’s certificate of authorisation is cancelled by RBI.
  • Vodafone m-pesa cannot transact business of issuance and operation of Prepaid payment Instruments
  • M-Pesa was launched in India as a close partnership with ICICI bank in November 2011. Development for the bank began as early as 2008. Vodafone India had partnered with both ICICI and ICICI bank, ICICI launched M-Pesa on 18 April 2013. Vodafone had planned to roll out this service throughout India.

  • Former Indian Cricketer Man Mohan Sood has passed away.
  • Man Mohan Sood was an Indian cricketer. He was born in Lahore, Punjab, and played in one Test in 1960.

3. Cricket Ground for Visually impaired cricketers

  • Visually impaired cricketers will get exclusive Sports Ground in Bengaluru by Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI).
  • The Cricket Association for the Blind in India is the apex body conducting cricket for the blind across India, having inherited responsibility in 2010 from the former Association for Cricket for the Blind in India.
