1. Mumbai has been ranked the world’s second most densely populated city.

  • Mumbai, home to 31,700 people per square kilometre has been ranked second in the list of world’s most crowded cities, released by World Economic Forum.
  • Mumbai is the most populous city in India and the ninth most populous agglomeration in the world.
  • Dhaka with a population density of 44,500 people per square kilometre has topped the list.
  • Kota in Rajasthan with 12,100 people per square kilometre was ranked seventh.
  • Headquarters of World Economic Forum – Cologny, Switzerland.

2. IFFCO launches co-branded debit card for farmers.

  • IFFCO has announced its collaboration with Bank of Baroda to launch its co-branded debit card for farmers.
  • IFFCO and Bank of Baroda had signed an MoU in February, 2017 to create co-branded debit cards for farmers.
  • This is will help farmers buy agri- inputs through a cashless transaction mechanism.
  • Under this scheme, a bank account with Bank of Baroda would be opened at the respective store after the farmer deposits Rs.100 and provides his Aadhar card.

3. Cabinet approves setting up of AIIMS in Assam.

  • Government has approved setting up of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Kamrup in Assam.
  • It will be set up under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna’, is expected to be completed in 48 months from the date of approval.
  • It will consist of a hospital with a capacity of 750 beds, trauma centre facilities, a medical college which can accommodate 100 MBBS students per year, a nursing for 60 B.Sc. students, residential complexes and other facilities on the pattern of AIIMS in New Delhi.

4. SBI launches national hackathon.

  • SBI has launched a national hackathon for developers, start-ups, and students to come up with innovative ideas and solutions for the banking sector.
  • The hackathon is named ‘Code For Bank’.
  • Hackathon will focus on technologies like predictive analytics, blockchain, digital payments, artificial intelligence, machine learning.

International News
1. Nepal’s PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal resigns.

  • He was elected as the 39th prime minister of Nepal after forging alliance with the Nepali Congress.
  • According to the alliance Pushpa Kamal would have to step down as Prime Minister and hand over the leadership to Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba after 9 months.
  • Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba will replace him.

2. Cabinet approves JDI between Germany, India.

  • Cabinet has approved the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) between Germany and India regarding cooperation in the sector of alternative medicine.
  • This will enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of traditional and alternative medicine.
  • Chancellor of Germany – Angela Merkel.

Business News
1. Paytm Payment’s Bank appoints new board members.

  • PV Bhaskar, Ash Lilani, and GS Sundararajan have joined the board as independent directors.
  • Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma will act as a non-executive chairman, and Paytm Payments Bank CEO RenuSatti will serve as a director on the bank’s board.
  • Paytm Payment’s bank is a mobile-first bank with zero charges on all online transactions and no minimum balance requirement.

Sports News
1. HCL to host Asian Junior Tennis Championship 2017.

  • It is the most reputed tennis championship in the Asian circuit for the U/18 category and is the second highest tournament anywhere in the world after the junior grand slams.
  • Players from 11 countries in the region are participating in the Championship.
  • The championship is being held in association with the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association and under the aegis of the ITF,ATFAITA.
  • HCL is going to host the event.
