1. India’s Position in the US Intellectual Property Rights Index
- India’s ranking has declined to the 42nd position in the 2023 International Intellectual Property Rights Index, a drop from its 40th place in 2021. The index is monitored by the Indian government and was initiated by the US Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Centre.
- The Index evaluates the protection levels of intellectual property rights across 55 primary economies, representing nearly 90% of the global GDP.
- The United States remains at the forefront, securing the top rank in this index.

2. INS Sindhukesari’s Historic Visit to Indonesia
- INS Sindhukesari, a 3,000-tonne Kilo-class diesel-electric submarine, has marked a significant achievement as the first Indian submarine to anchor in Indonesia.
- After navigating through the proximate Sunda Strait, it made its entry into Jakarta, marking its debut operational turnaround.
- This submarine is an outcome of Project 877 and has been constructed following an agreement between Russia’s Rosvooruzhenie and India’s Ministry of Defence.

3. DST’s Partnership with Fraunhofer ISE on Hydrogen Technologies
- The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has formalized a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE).
- This collaboration is envisioned for the long-term and will primarily emphasize hydrogen technologies.
- The partnership’s objective is to elevate the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of hydrogen energy clusters pioneered by DST and to pinpoint opportunities for amalgamating Fraunhofer’s green hydrogen expertise with local technologies.

4. B.V.R. Subrahmanyam’s Appointment as CEO of NITI Aayog
- B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, an esteemed IAS officer from the 1987 batch, has embarked on his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog.
- With a rich history of assignments across regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, coupled with his experience at The World Bank, he brings invaluable expertise to his role.
- Additionally, Subrahmanyam holds the designation of Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and has had illustrious stints as the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and Principal Secretary in the Chhattisgarh Government.

5. Lt Gen RS Reen’s Elevation to Director General Quality Assurance
- On February 24, 2023, Lt Gen RS Reen, an accomplished officer from the 1986 batch, has taken up the mantle of Director General Quality Assurance (DGQA).
- DGQA, functioning as an Inter-Service Organization, operates under the aegis of the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence.
- Armed with a Six Sigma Black Belt certification from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, Lt Gen RS Reen has previously held paramount positions including Senior Quality Assurance, Brigadier at DGQA Headquarters, and Controller (Missile System) based in Secunderabad.
