1. Launch of India’s Premier Water Metro in Kochi by PM Modi
- In a landmark event, PM Modi inaugurated India’s pioneering water metro service in Kochi, Kerala.
- This service aims to connect 10 islands surrounding Kochi using electric hybrid boats powered by batteries. Initially, eight of these boats, produced by Cochin Shipyard Limited, will be in service.
- The project, financially backed by both the Kerala state government and the German firm, KfW, includes 38 terminals and a fleet of 78 electric boats.
- The inaugural routes will establish connections between the High Court-Vypin and Vyttila-Kakkanad terminals.

2. Dedication of Sharjah Stadium Stand to Sachin Tendulkar
- In honor of his 50th birthday, a stand at the Sharjah cricket stadium has been named after Indian cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar.
- The Sharjah Cricket Stadium holds the world record for the most One-Day Internationals, with a total of 244 matches.
- Sydney Cricket Ground has also commemorated Sachin’s milestone birthday by naming a gate in his honor.

3. Introduction of New Emergency Alert System in the UK
- The UK has begun testing its new emergency alert system, which activated alarms and vibrations on numerous mobile phones at 3:00 pm (1400 GMT).
- The test message stated, “This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new U.K. government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby.”
- This system aims to rapidly inform the public about emergencies such as floods and fires and is modeled after alert mechanisms in countries like Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, and the U.S.
- However, there has been some public criticism regarding potential government overreach.

5. RBI Imposes Penalties on Four Cooperative Banks
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has sanctioned four cooperative banks with penalties amounting to Rs 44 lakh.
- Bombay Mercantile Co-operative Bank has been fined Rs 13 lakh for failing to transfer the mandated funds to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF).
- Tamil Nadu State Apex Co-operative Bank faces a Rs 16 lakh penalty for a similar reason, while Baran Nagrik Sahkari Bank has been fined Rs 2 lakh for non-adherence to specific norms.

6. Tallinn Conducts “Locked Shields” Cyber-Defense Exercise in 2023
- NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence hosted its annual “Locked Shields” exercise in Tallinn, Estonia, in 2023.
- Recognized as the world’s leading cyber defense drill, this exercise simulates real-time threats and demands both tactical and strategic decision-making in crisis situations.

- Every year on April 25, World Malaria Day is observed to recognize and boost global efforts towards malaria control.

- Malaria is a dangerous disease transmitted to humans by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Between 2015 and 2022, India documented an impressive decline of over 85% in malaria cases.
