2. Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019

  • Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019 was awarded to author Rana Dasgupta.
  • It was awarded for his 2010 novel ‘Solo’.
  • Rabindranath Tagore, and also known by his sobriquets Gurudev, Kabiguru, and Biswakabi, was a Bengali polymath, poet, musician, and artist from the Indian subcontinent.

3. New Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA)

  • Rajendra Kumar Nayak has been appointed as the 52nd Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA).
  • Defence Accounts Department, with the Controller General of Defence Accounts at its head, functions under the administrative control of the Financial Adviser (Defence Services).
  • Defence Accounts Department (DAD) is one of the oldest departments under the Government of India. Headed by Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA)
  • The department is responsible for Financial Advice, Payment, Accounting and Internal Audit in respect of Expenditure and Receipts of the Defence Services and other Defence related organisations such as DRDO, Ordnance Factories, Coast Guard etc.

International News

1. World Intellectual Property Day

  • World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April.
  • The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2000 to “raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks.

2. India’s next High Commissioner to Seychelles

  • Dalbir Singh Suhag has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to the island nation of Seychelles.
  • He was the 26th Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army, serving from 31 July 2014 to 31 December 2016, and Vice Chief of the Army Staff prior to that.
  • The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa.

3. World Malaria Day

  • World Malaria Day is an international observance commemorated every year on 25 April and recognizes global efforts to control malaria.
  • Globally, 3.3 billion people in 106 countries are at risk of malaria. In 2012, malaria caused an estimated 627,000 deaths, mostly among African children.

4. Vladimir Putin with Kim Jong Un

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hold their first-ever talks in the Pacific port city of Vladivostok, Russia.
  • Kim Jong-un is a North Korean politician serving as Supreme Leader of North Korea since 2011 and also serving as the Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea since 2012. Kim is the second child of Kim Jong-il and Ko Yong-hui. He is the grandson of Kim Il-sung, who was the first leader of North Korea from 1948 to 1994.
  • Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer serving as President of Russia since 2012, previously holding the position from 2000 until 2008. In between his presidential terms he was also the Prime Minister of Russia under his close associate Dmitry Medvedev.

1. Hero Group with Rajasthan

  • Hero Future Energies Global will invest around $200 million in a solar project in Rajasthan.
  • Hero Future Energies Global (HFE) is the clean energy arm of Hero Group.
  • The project will be supported by International Finance Corporation (IFC).

2. BuyUcoin Cryptocurrency Exchange

  • BuyUcoin Cryptocurrency Exchange has introduced first indian platform for Wholesale Cryptocurrency Trading.
  • BuyUcoin is a New Delhi based Indian Cryptocurrency Exchange founded in 2016.

3. New MD and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank

  • Karnam Sekar will be appointed as the new Managing Director and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank from July 1, 2019
  • Indian Overseas Bank is a major public sector bank based in Chennai, India.

4. Mahindra & Mahindra with Uber

  • Mahindra & Mahindra has announced the deployment of 50 Electric Vehicles on Uber in Hyderabad
  • Mahindra & Mahindra Limited is an Indian multinational car manufacturing corporation headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was established in 1945 as Mohammad & Mahindra and later renamed as Mahindra and Mahindra.
  • Uber Technologies Inc. is a transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. Uber offers services including peer-to-peer ridesharing, ride service hailing, food delivery, and a bicycle-sharing system. The company has operations in 785 metropolitan areas worldwide.

1. ‘Order of Ikhamanga’ to Jacques Kallis

  • South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has awarded Jacques Kallis with Order of Ikhamanga in Silver.
  • Jacques Kallis is a former South African cricketer, and, a former Test and ODI captain. As a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium swing bowler, Kallis is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time and the game’s greatest all-rounder.
  • The Order of Ikhamanga is a South African honour. It was instituted on 30 November 2003 and is granted by the President of South Africa for achievements in arts, culture, literature, music, journalism, and sports.

2. 2019 World Cup Cricket

  • Umpire Sundaram Ravi is the only Indian among 22 match officials for 2019 World Cup Cricket.
  • Sundaram Ravi is a cricket umpire from India and a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires. He has umpired several Test matches, One Day Internationals as well as Twenty20 Internationals.
  • The 2019 Cricket World Cup is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales, from 30 May to 14 July 2019.

3. ISSF World Cup (2nd Series Beijing)

  • Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker have won Gold in 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Beijing.
  • The 2019 ISSF World Cup is the annual edition of the ISSF World Cup in the Olympic shooting events, governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation.
  • The World Cup series will be also as the qualification tournaments for the 2020 Olympic Games.
