2. India’s longest rail-road bridge
- Bogibeel river bridge is the longest rail-cum- bridge in India measuring 4.94 kilometres over the Brahmaputra river.
- It is a combined road and rail bridge over the Brahmaputra river in the north eastern Indian state of Assam between Dhemaji district and Dibrugarh district, which was started in the year 2002 and took a total of 200 months to complete the project as heavy rainfall in the region being the main cause for the slow progress.
3. Dwijen Mukhopadhyay passes away
- Singer Dwijen Mukhopadhyay has passed away at 91.
- Dwijen Mukhopadhyay was an Indian composer and singer whose musical career spanned six decades. He was an accomplished performer of Rabindrasangeet, Bengali basic songs, Bengali and Hindi film songs. He has recorded more than 1500 songs, of which about 800 are songs of Rabindranath Tagore.
4. Nirendranath Chakrabarty passes away
- Nirendranath Chakrabarty from Bengal has passed away in Kolkata.
- He won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1974 for the book of poems ‘Ulanga Raja’ (The Naked King).
International News
1. Turkmenistan’s first messaging app
- Turkmenistan, where Facebook and Twitter are banned, has launched its first messaging app ‘BizBarde app’.

2. Trilateral Chabahar Agreement
- The first meeting of the committee of the Trilateral Chabahar Agreement between India, Afghanistan and Iran was held in Chabahar in Iran.
- Chabahar Port is a seaport in Chabahar located in southeastern Iran, on the Gulf of Oman. It serves as Iran’s only oceanic port, and consists of two separate ports named Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti, each of which has five berths.
- Indian firm India Ports Global Limited took over operations at the Shaheed Behesti port in Chabahar.
- Chabahar provides the only viable route for trade between India and Afghanistan.
3. Rajasthan International Film Festival
- Rajasthan International Film Festival will be held from 19 to 23 January 2019 at Jaipur, Rajasthan.
- The 5th Rajasthan International Film Festival will be organized by RIFF Film Club.

4. Dhola–Sadiya Bridge
- The Dhola–Sadiya Bridge, also referred to as the Bhupen Hazarika Setu is a beam bridge in India on Lohit River, connecting the northeast states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
- At 9.15 kilometres (5.69 mi) in length, it is the longest bridge in India.
- The 9.76 kilometres (6.06 mi) Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur Bridge under construction in the Indian state of Bihar, is expected to become the longest bridge in India upon its estimated completion in December 2020.
