The Indian administration has recently sanctioned key modifications to the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020. These changes are designed to streamline the procedure for acquiring new electricity connections, ensuring transparency, and bolstering the adoption of rooftop solar installations. This move signifies a major leap towards empowering consumers and aligns with the country’s goals to lower carbon emissions. The updated regulations aim to expedite the process of securing new electricity connections to just three days in metro cities, seven days in urban areas, and fifteen days in rural locales.
