 India’s Debut of Green Hydrogen Bus

  • The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has launched the country’s first bus running on green hydrogen, which only emits water. This step is seen as a significant advancement towards an eco-friendly transportation system and less dependence on fossil fuels.
  • Leading the initiative, IOC is manufacturing green hydrogen using water electrolysis, which is powered by renewable energy sources. This produced hydrogen is intended to power several buses for trial runs in Delhi.
  • Hydrogen, being viewed as an essential fuel for the future, is poised to play a significant role in India’s path to decarbonization. Global demand for hydrogen is expected to surge, with India’s demand projected to rise substantially by 2050.

 Consistent Delay in Monsoon’s Departure

  • For the 13th consecutive year, India has witnessed a delay in the monsoon’s withdrawal. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon began retreating on 25th September, straying from the usual 17th September.
  • Traditionally, the monsoon reaches Kerala by 1st June and covers the entire country by 8th July. The withdrawal typically starts around 17th September and concludes by mid-October.
  • This postponement poses significant implications for agriculture, especially in northwest India, potentially affecting the commencement of the Rabi crop season and disturbing farming operations.

  • Maruti Suzuki India and the Indian Navy have teamed up for the ‘Khamree Mo Sikkim’ initiative, which aims to inform the youth of Northeast India about the Navy’s career opportunities and to foster closer ties with local communities.
