National News
1. India’s first electric mass mobility system.

  • Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari flagged off 200 electric public transport vehicles in Nagpur.
  • With this Nagpur become the first city with electric fleet of 200 electric vehicles, including taxis, buses, e-rickshaw and autos.
  • The pilot project, comprising 100 e-taxis and 100 e-rickshaws would run on Ola’s app.
  • The pilot project here commence with a 200-strong fleet, including 100 of Mahindra’s new e2o Plus vehicles. The rest will consist of vehicles sourced from Tata Motors, Kinetic, BYD and TVS.

2. Poll Candidates to declare their and spouse’s source of income.

  • Candidates fighting election will now have to declare their as well as spouse’s sources of income while filing nominations.
  • Government has amended the Conduct of Election Rules to include a fresh column in the affidavit relating to the “source of income of: self and spouse”.
  • Also the declarations regarding conflict of interest and office of profit have been expanded through the amendments.

3. DIPP gets back power to grant defence licences.

  • Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has been given back the power to grant licenses for defence manufacturing.
  • Earlier the exercise was being carried out by the home ministry.
  • DIPP is mainly responsible for formulation of polices with regard to promotion of foreign investment and manufacturing industries.

4. India announces $500 mn assistance to Mauritius.

  • India has announced a $500 million line of credit to Mauritius as the two countries resolved to deepen ties in a range of areas including the maritime domain.
  • A total of four agreements were signed including Agreement on Maritime Security.
  • Both PM’s agreed that effective management of conventional and non-conventional threats in the Indian Ocean is essential to pursue economic opportunities.

International News
1. Nepalese Sherpa scales Everest for record 21 times.

  • Kami Rita Sherpa from Nepal has created history by scaling Mt. Everest for 21st time.
  • He became one of the three climbers in the world to hold the record for most of the summits on Mt Everest.
  • He has already climbed K2, Cho-oyu, Lhoste and Annapurna.

2. Earth sized storms over Jupiter poles.

  • Nasa’s exploratory spacecraft Juno have found that Jupiter’s poles are covered in Earth sized swirling storms that are densely clustered and rubbing together.
  • The results also showed that Jupiter’s magnetic field is even stronger than models expected, and more irregular in shape.
  • Juno was launched in 2011 to study Jupiter’s polar magnetosphere, composition and evolution.

3. G7 summit begins in Italy.

  • A two long day G7 summit has began in Italy.
  • The summit will focus on issues surrounding security and growth. A tough debate is expected on issues including trade and climate change.
  • Members of G7 are – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and US.

1. Apple has opened its first store in Southeast Asia.

  • Apple has opened its first Southeast Asia store in Singapore’s Orchard shopping district.
  • Merchandise such as the iPhone and MacBook were strategically placed on display across the spacious first floor, while the upper level acted as a classroom for customers to participate in hands-on sessions.

2. Kalyan Krishnamurthy takes additional charge of the HR.

  • Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy has taken additional charge of the Human Resources.
  • He took over the HR function from chief operating officer Nitin Seth.

1. First Professional football academy in J&K.

  • Jammu and Kashmir’s first professional football academy has been launched in Srinagar.
  • India footballer Mehrajuddin Wadoo would be the head of the academy.
