1. Delhi-Chandigarh rail corridor may cost Rs.11,000 crore

  • The up gradation of the corridor for allowing trains to ply on a speed of 200 kmph will cost Rs.11,218 cr.
  • The travel time between the cities will be reduced from 3.5 hours to 2 hours.

2. Trial courts launch e-mail alerts for updates on case status

  • The litigants are sent updates in their case, the date of next hearing and reminders before the hearing date via e-mail.
  • The automated facility can also be availed by advocates.

3. CBI to probe Rs.600 cr land transfer scam in Delhi

  • The officials allegedly transferred 30 acres of govt property worth Rs.600 cr to inviduals through forged court orders.
  • The scam came to light after govt’s annual property survey showed that Gram Sabha land worth Rs.40 cr was sold for Rs.2 cr.

International News

1. 40k flee as Indonesia raises volcano alert to highest level

  • This comes after authorities issued highest level warning following eruption from the Mount Agung volcano.
  • Authorities closed the Bali island’s airport and 445 flights were cancelled, leaving 59,000 passengers stranded on the island.

2. NZ gets world’s first AI politician

  • ’SAM’ can answer queries related to housing, education and immigration policies.
  • Entrepreneur Gerritson hopes SAM will be advanced enough to participate in the 2020 elections but was unsure of whether it would be legally possible.

1. Airtel open to acquisition talks with Aircel : Sunil Mittal

  • Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal has said that his company would be open to acquisition talks with Aircel.
  • He added that Aircel’s only options are to either go with the combined entity of Vodafone-Idea or with Airtel.

2. SEBI to probe earnings leak of 24 firms on WhatsApp : Reports

  • India’s top two stock exchanges NSE and BSE have reportedly written to at least 12 companies whose earnings were leaked on WhatsApp before their scheduled announcement.
  • The regulator and exchanges are trying to find out if they violate insider trading regulations and listing regulations.

1. Virat Kohli rested for Sri Lanka ODI’s

  • Rohit Sharma has been named captain for the series.
  • All-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the fourth straight ODI series.

2. France beat Belgium to win first Davis Cup title in 16 yrs

  • France defeated Belgium 3-2 to win Davis Cup, dubbed the World Cup of Tennis for the first time in 16 years and 10th time overall .
  • France’s tally is now level with Britain at third, behind USA(32) and Australia(28).
