1. Projection of India’s Per Capita Income Growth

  • A research report from Standard Chartered Bank suggests that India’s per capita income could surge by about 70% by 2030, potentially reaching 4,000 dollars, compared to the current level of 2,450 dollars.
  • This growth is anticipated to elevate India to a middle-income economy with a GDP of 6 trillion dollars, where a significant share of it, around half, would stem from household consumption.
  • India’s per capita GDP has seen incremental growth, moving from 460 dollars in 2001 to 1,413 dollars in 2011 and further to 2,150 dollars in 2021.
  • The expansion of external trade is foreseen as a pivotal factor in driving substantial economic progress, with expectations of doubling external trade to 2.1 trillion dollars by 2030.

2. Inauguration of the 20th Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, India Region by Om Birla

  • Om Birla, Speaker of Lok Sabha, has inaugurated the 20th annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, India Region.

1. 63rd Session of the Central Geological Programming Board in Bhopal:

  • The Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) conducted its 63rd meeting in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, led by the Ministry of Mines Secretary, Shri V.L. Kantha Rao. The focus was on reviewing the Annual Programme for the 2024-25 Field Season. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) proposed about 1055 scientific projects. 5. RBI Approves Zomato Payments as a Payment Aggregator:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorized Zomato Payments Private Limited, a Zomato subsidiary, to act as a payment aggregator as of January 24, 2024. Founded on August 4, 2021, the company is now permitted to process e-commerce transactions. Zomato had earlier collaborated with ICICI Bank to introduce Zomato Pay on its UPI platform, lessening its dependence on other payment systems.

6. ICRA Revises Bank Credit Growth Projection for FY24 Upwards:

  • ICRA, the credit rating agency, has increased its forecast for bank credit growth in FY24 to 14.9-15.3%, upfrom the previous 12.8-13.0%.   • Air India, part of the Tata Group, has been penalized Rs 1.1 crore by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for failing to adhere to safety norms. 8. LIC Sanctioned to Acquire Stake in HDFC Bank:

  • The Reserve Bank of India has sanctioned the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to acquire up to 9.99% of HDFC Bank, India’s premier private bank.
