1. Permanent shutdown of Sterlite plant

  • CM EK Palaniswami passed an order to permanently shut down Vedanta’s Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin.
  • Earlier, there were protests alleging that the plant was causing health problems.

2. Voting suspended at 35 booths in Maharashtra

  • Voting for Lok Sabha bypolls has been suspended due to faulty EVMs.
  • Bypolls are being held for 4 Lok Sabha seats and 10 Assembly seats across several states.

3. Google India announces summer camp

  • The firm announced the 4-week contest for kids across the country.

2. NZ to end bacterial disease

  • New Zealand will kill over 1lakh cows in a bid to eradicate Mycoplasma bovis.
  • The country will spend over$600 mn on the largest slaughter in its history.

3. FB designing chips to filter videos

  • Facebook is designing the chips to filter videos real time.
  • It is also putting together a team to design its own semiconductors.

1. RBI appoints 1st ever CFO

  • RBI has appointed Sudha Balakrishnan as its CFO.
  • She will be the 12th executive director of RBI and has a term of 3 yrs.

2. Intra-state e-way bill comes into force

  • Maharashtra, Manipur and 5 other Union Territories have rolled out intra-state GST.
  • With this, 27 states have E-Way bill in place.

3. India launches IT corridor in China

  • India launched its 2nd IT corridor in Guiyang which will focus on Big Data.
  • The 1st IT corridor was launched in Dalian last December.

Sports News

1. Japan clinches Uber Cup

  • Japan’s women clinched the Uber Cup by defeating Thailand 3-1.
  • The Uber Cup is 2nd in Prestige to Olympics as a national team event.

2. CSK clinch IPL 2018 title

  • CSK chased SRH’s 178 in 18.3 overs to clinch the title.
  • This is CSK’s 3rd win at IPL.
