1. IAF’s trainee aircraft crashes in Telangana

  • A trainee aircraft of the Indian Air Force carrying 3 people crashed in Keesara village of Telangana.
  • No casualties or injuries were reported.

2. No 2nd chance for NRIs to deposit demonetised notes : Swaraj

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has ruled out any opportunity for NRIs to deposit their high value demonetised Indian currency.
  • According to the Global Organisation for People of Indian Origin, diaspora Indians have around Rs.7,500 crores with them in small amounts of demonetised currency.

3. Karnataka bans sale of loose cigarettes, beedis, and tobacco products

  • Karnataka govt has banned the loose sale of these products to avoid smoking in public places.
  • A first violator of the ban will face up to 1-year jail term while a repeated offence will attract up to 2 years of jail.

4. Chhattisgarh govt to give free mobile phones

  • CM Raman Singh is planning to distribute free mobile phones to over 55.6 lakh people within 2.5 years.
  • Rs.230 crore has been earmarked for the plan.
  • The plan will cover rural families, urban poor families and college youth.

International News

1. Dubai unveils plans to build Rs.900 crore Mars simulation city

  • It is a part of the long-term Emirates Mars Mission to establish a human colony on the Red Planet by 2117.
  • The Mars Science City would have walls 3D printed from desert sand and accommodate a team for a year of experiments.

2. Malaysia bans travel to North Korea

  • This is due to the escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula following North Korea’s missile and nuclear development.
  • Relations between the countries became strained after the murder of Kim Jong-un’s half-brother in Kuala Lumpur.

3. Russia, US partner to build 1st ever space station near Moon

  • Roscosmos and NASA have agreed to build the first-ever astronaut-tended space station around the Moon.
  • The gateway would help prepare for manned missions to deep space destinations including Mars.

4. Hundreds evacuated due to wildfire in US

  • 1,500 residents were evacuated from the city of Corona due to a wildfire called Canyon Fire.
  • It has only been contained 5% and has spread over 2,000 acres.

Business News

1. Patanjali needs Rs.5,000 crore to support expansion

  • Baba Ramdev said his company Patanjali Ayurved will need to borrow the amount to expand production capacity.
  • He further said that his dream is to see Patanjali emerge as the largest packaged goods company in the world by 2020-21.

2. Two more firms show interest in Air India’s ground handling business

  • Official sources said Menzies Aviation Dubai and Mumbai- headquartered diversified Livewel group have shown interest in Air India’s ground handling operations.
  • A subsidiary of the airline, Air India Air Transport Services Ltd (AIATSL) provides ground handling services.

3. Ryanair cancels 18,000 flights

  • After it announced the cancellation of over 2,000 flights till October 31st, the airlines announced it is cancelling 18,000 more flights between November and March.
  • The mass cancellations are expected to affect over 7 lakh passengers.

Sports News
1. David Warner scores a 100 in his 100th ODI

  • He scored his 14th ODI hundred against India at Bengaluru.
  • Warner is the first Aussie and the eighth player overall toregister a ton in his 100th match

2. New cricket rules that come into effect

  • The umpires will now be able to send players off during a match for serious misconduct.
  • The thickness of bats has been restricted and the umpires will be given a gauge to check their legality.
