1. India develops its first unmanned tank ‘Muntra’

  • Muntra has three tested and validated remote-controlled variants – Muntra-S, Muntra-M and Muntra-N.
  • Muntra-S is for unmanned surveillance missions, Muntra-M is for detecting mines and Muntra-N is for areas where risk of nuclear radiation is high.

2. Bengaluru’s Russell Market to get makeover under Smart City Plan

  • The market, developed in 1927 by British colonizers will be revamped under the Rs.2000 crore Smart City Project in which the city was included last month.
  • The BBMP plans to demolish the structures and build a 4-storey building for commercial purposes.

3.GPS to be mandatory in taxis and autos in Maharashtra

  • The matter was raised by an Opposition leader with regard to the passengers’ safety.
  • The blank-and-yellow taxis and autorickshaws will install GPS on the lines of ride hailing services like Uber and Ola.

4. Jammu and Kashmir tops list on human rights violation

  • The Home Ministry revealed that the violations are highest in J&K with 92 complaints against Indian Army and paramilitary forces in 2016.
  • Assam comes 2nd with 58 complaints and Manipur is 3rd at 21.

International News

1.International Tiger Day observed on July 29

  • It was first observed in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit.
  • The world has lost 97% of all wild tigers in a bit over 100 years.

2.UK lifts laptop ban on two Turkish Airlines

    • The UK had imposed the in-cabin laptop ban on direct flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
    • The Transport Department said that the UK Govt will lift the ban once it has verified the alternative security measures put in place.

3.US House approves USD 1.6 billion Dollars for Trump’s border wall

  • The US House of Representatives has approved a bill for the proposed US-Mexico border.
  • Trump claims the wall is necessary to prevent illegal immigration and smuggling of drugs inside the United States.

1 .’Circle of Five’ sued over 20-yr long cartel

  • German automakers BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche brands called themselves as ‘Circle of Five’ and colluded to restrict technological advances and stifle competition as claimed by the lawsuit.
  • The cartel allowed these companies to price their cars higher on the premise of superior German engineering.

2. Chinese Billionaire became USD 8 billion Dollars richer in 2 days

  • Hui Ka Yan, Chairman of Evergrande group saw his fortune jump to $33.5 billion in just 2 days.
  • This rise followed a surge in his firm’s shares which rose by 34%.
  • The firm’s stock increased 393% this year.

3. ITC in search of CEO for its proposed hospital

  • Chairman YC Deveshwar said that they are looking for someone to lead their proposed entry into health sector.
  • The health-care business obtained the shareholders’ approval last year.

4. Bengaluru at 40th among top 50 cities for women entrepreneurs

  • The city was ranked 40th in the Dell’s annual Women Entrepreneur(WE) Cities Index of the world’s top 50 cities that promote the growth of women entrepreneurs.
  • New York topped the list, followed by Bay Area, London and Boston.

Sports News
1.India beat Sri Lanka by 304 runs

  • India registered the biggest away Test win. India took 17 wickets to win the test.
  • After 27 tests as captain, Virat Kohli has only 3 losses, which is the second least for a captain in Tests.

2. Porsche to join Formula E

  • Porsche is set to end its participation in Le Mans World Endurance Championship and join Formula E.
  • Porsche is the second manufacturer to quit after Audi.
