1. Unified Commanders’ Conference – 2018

  • Unified Commanders’ Conference (UCC) for the year 2018 will be held on 30th & 31st Jul 2018 at New Delhi.
  • This is a platform for discussions at the Apex Level on all ‘Joint Issues’ amongst the three Services & Ministry of Defence and enables stock taking of the previous year and planning the way ahead for the next year.

2. Meghalaya Milk Mission

  • Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Radha Mohan Singh participated in the launching of Meghalaya Milk Mission in Shillong.
  • A project of Rs 215 crore for Meghalaya Milk Mission through National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) was announced.

3. Rs 300 Crore Irrigation Dam Project

  • CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Rs 300 crore Rukura Medium Irrigation Dam project.

International News

1. Pakistan’s new Prime Minister

  • Pakistani fast bowler Imran Khan is set to become the Pakistan’s next Prime Minister
  • Khan became the first person in the history of Pakistan general elections who contested in five constituencies and won in all five constituencies, surpassing Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who contested in four but won in three constituencies in 1970.

2. International Tiger Day: 29 July

  • International Tiger Day is observed on 29 July.
  • The goal of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.

3. Google unveiled two new Artificial Intelligence chips

  • Edge TPU(Tensor Processing Unit) :The new hardware chip is purpose-built application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) designed to run AI at the edge.
  • Cloud IoT Edge : It is a software stack that extends Google Cloud’s powerful AI capability to gateways and connected devices.

1. ‘Marketer of the Year’ award – Amul brand

  • Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF)(Amul brand) has been awarded the ‘Marketer of the Year’ award.
  • This award is presented by the International Advertising Association of India (IAAI).

2. ITC to become India’s fourth most valued firm

  • ITC overtook Hindustan Unilever (HUL) to become India’s fourth most valued firm.
  • Top 5 Most Valued Firms of India: TCS,RIL,HDFC Bank, ITC ,HUL

3. A Panel for data protection law

  • A panel headed by Ret. judge B N Srikrishna submitted its report on suggestions for a data protection law(Including Aadhar).
  • It also suggested various penalties for violation of data privacy.

1. Russia Open

  • Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma lifted the Russian Open Badminton
  • Sourabh beat Japan’s Koki Watanabe, 18-21, 21-12, 21-17, and win his first title of the season.

2. Kapil Dev in national golf team

  • 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has been selected in the national golf team.
  • He will take part in the 2018 Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship.

3. ‘Sano Cricket Curry Festival’

  • ICC organised the ‘Sano Cricket Curry Festival’ in Sano city, Japan to promote cricket in the nation.
