1. SEBI Penalizes PNB Finance and Others with â‚ą36 Crore in Fines

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed significant penalties totaling â‚ą35.67 crore on PNB Finance and Industries Ltd, Camac Commercial Company Ltd, and several other entities.
  • Notably, this penalty includes sanctions against promoters Samir Jain and Meera Jain, who are also prohibited from participating in the securities market.
  • The reason for these actions is non-compliance with SEBI norms related to the minimum public shareholding requirement.
  • SEBI mandates that listed companies must maintain a minimum of 25% public shareholding.
  • In particular, SEBI has imposed a substantial fine of Rs 12 crore on PNBFIL.

2. NDTV Appoints Former SEBI Chairman UK Sinha as Independent Director

  • NDTV has made significant appointments by bringing U.K. Sinha and Dipali Goenka on board as Independent Directors of NDTV. Their appointments are effective from March 27, 2023, for a two-year tenure.
  • U.K. Sinha, in addition to being an Independent Director, has been designated as the Non-Executive Chairperson of NDTV.
  • U.K. Sinha has a distinguished career, having served as the Chairman of SEBI from 2011 to 2017. He also held the position of Chairman at UTI Asset Management for six years.
  • Dipali Goenka, on the other hand, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Welspun India Limited.

3. Task Force Aims to Transform India into a Leading Product Developer and Manufacturer

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has taken a significant step by forming a nine-member task force with the aim of positioning India as a hub for product development and manufacturing.
  • The task force will be led by Bhuvnesh Kumar, the additional secretary of MeitY, and will include Amitesh Kumar Sinha, the joint secretary of electronics, as the member convenor.
  • This initiative reflects India’s ambition to emerge as a viable alternative to countries such as China and Vietnam in the arena of product development and manufacturing.
