1. ASI Launches “Adopt a Heritage 2.0 programme”, Indian Heritage App and E-Permission Portal
- To ensure the preservation and enhancement of India’s rich cultural heritage, the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) is launching the “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” programme on September 4, 2023, at the Samvet Auditorium, IGNCA, New Delhi.
- The “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” programme is an initiative designed to facilitate corporate stakeholders’ active involvement in improving amenities at heritage sites using their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
- Alongside the “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” programme, a user-friendly mobile app named ‘Indian Heritage’ will be introduced. This app will digitally showcase India’s heritage monuments, offering state-wise details of monuments, photographs, available public amenities, geo-tagged locations, and a feedback mechanism for citizens.
2. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Inaugurates Utkela Airport in Odisha
- Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, with Gen Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), Minister of State for Civil Aviation, inaugurated Utkela Airport in Odisha on September 31, 2023, as part of the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme to improve regional air connectivity.
- This inauguration introduced a direct flight route between Utkela and Bhubaneshwar, aiming to boost regional connectivity and stimulate the local economy.
- The new air link will enable efficient travel between Utkela and Bhubaneshwar, covering the distance in just 80 minutes. Minister Scindia highlighted that this enhanced connectivity would promote economic activities and job opportunities in the region.

3. Georgia Declares October as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’
- Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp has officially declared October as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’ in the U.S. state.
- This declaration aligns Georgia with multiple other U.S. states that have similarly recognized and celebrated Hindu heritage, culture, and values.
- States such as Texas, Ohio, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, Minnesota, Virginia, and more have acknowledged the significance of Hinduism in American society by designating ‘Hindu Heritage Month’.
4. Tharman Shanmugaratnam Wins Singapore Presidential Election
- Indian-origin economist Tharman Shanmugaratnam has won Singapore’s presidential election, marking the first contested presidential poll in the country since 2011.
- Tharman Shanmugaratnam secured a resounding 70.4 percent of the votes, triumphing over Chinese-origin contenders Ng Kok Song and Tan Kin Lian, who received 15.7 percent and 13.88 percent respectively.
5. Indo-US Task Force Aims to Boost Electronics Trade to $100 Billion by 2033
- To strengthen trade relations in the electronics sector between India and the U.S., the Indian Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) has formed a task force. The aim is to increase the current Indo-US electronics trade from $8 billion to a staggering $100 billion within the next ten years.
- ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo emphasized that reaching this goal would significantly advance India’s ambition to become a global center for electronics innovation and manufacturing.
- This Indo-US collaboration involves policy and regulatory adaptations to promote greater technology sharing, co-development, and co-production opportunities for the industries of both nations.

6. Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Gets Navratna Status
- The Department of Public Enterprise (DPE) has awarded ‘Navratna Status’ to Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF). Navratnas are public sector firms granted financial autonomy to invest up to Rs 1000 crore without needing central government approval. Previously, the company held ‘Miniratna Status’.
- Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. (RCF) is a government-owned enterprise based in Mumbai, primarily involved in producing chemicals and fertilizers. Operating under the Government of India, it falls under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The Chairman & MD of RCF is S. C. Mudgerikar.
7. CCI Clears Air India-Vistara Merger
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the merger between Air India and Vistara, paving the way for India’s national airline and Vistara, a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, to combine their operations.
- The merged entity is expected to become India’s largest airline in terms of market share and fleet size. While the process for integration is underway, customers will benefit from combined loyalty programs and more streamlined services.
