- Mohamed Muizzu, known for his pro-China stance, has won the presidential election in the Maldives.
- The victory saw him beat the current president, Mohamed Solih.
- A quick profile of Mohamed Muizzu: At 45 years old, Mohamed Muizzu studied civil engineering in Britain. Before his presidential bid, he served as the construction minister under the leadership of Abdulla Yameen, his mentor. He supervised multiple infrastructure projects funded by China, including a bridge project worth $200 million.

2. Gold Victory for India’s Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale in Mixed Doubles
- Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale, representing India, clinched the gold medal in the mixed doubles category at the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou.
- The duo, seeded second, bested the ninth-seeded pair from Chinese Taipei, Tsung-hao Huang and Liang En-shuo, in the final round at Hangzhou’s Olympic Sports Centre.

3. India’s Premier Sports Training Center Unveiled by PM
- In remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the nation’s premier sports training facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. This center is named in honor of ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and is specially designed for Divyangjan.

8. Iran’s Satellite Launch Raises Concerns in the Middle East
- The Revolutionary Guards of Iran, an integral faction of the nation’s military, successfully launched the Noor 3 satellite using a three-tier Qasem rocket.
- In Farsi, “Noor” translates to “light,” and “Qased” means “messenger.”
- The primary function of Noor 3 is imaging.
- This launch follows its predecessors, Noor 1 and Noor 2, which were sent into orbit in April 2020 and March 2022, respectively, using Qased rockets.
