Bangladesh hosts Mega-conference of World Parliamentarians

  • The 136th Mega-Conference of World Parliamentarians organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Bangladesh JatiyaSangsad has begun in Dhaka on April 1, 2017. This conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Ms. Sheikh Hasina.
  • The main agenda of this conference was to provide means to end political and economic inequality and for upholding democracy and human rights.The 137th conference is to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from 14-18 October 2017.

Finance
From April 1, Finance Bill will get presidential assent

  • President Pranab Mukherjee gave his assent to the Finance Bill 2017 on 31st March 2017. Thus, as announced in Budget 2017, all financial and taxation related provisions have now attained a legal status.
  • Biometric identifier Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for filing income tax returns, effective from 1st July 2017.

Rs. 98.35 crore sanctioned by Centre for Tourism sector development in Assam

  • Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Dr. Mahesh Sarma announced that Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 98.35 crores for tourism development in Assam.The amount sanctioned will be used under the scheme of Swadesh Darshan. The cities to be developed are Tezpur, Majuli, and Sivasagar.
  • The first installment of Rs. 19.67 crores from the sanctioned amount was released by the Central government on March 31, 2017.
  • Evasion of Tax over Rs 5 crore has become a non-bailable offense under GST Regime.
  • The Central government has decided to make tax avoidance of over Rs 5 crore under the proposed Goods and services Tax (GST) regime as a non-bailable offense which was over Rs 2.5 crore earlier.
  • The Deputy (or) Assistant Commissioner of CGST and SGST has the power to provide bail to the person arrested under tax evasions.

National Affair
President three-day Visits to West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar

  • President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee is on an official visit to West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar from 1st – 3rd April 2017.The Schedule of which is 1st April 2017 – Kolkata, West Bengal and 2nd April 2017 – Jharkhand.
  • President was the Chief Guest at 52nd Annual Convocation of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) – Calcutta . In Ranchi, President laid the foundation stone of Rabindra Bhawan and Haj House.

Science & Technology
A Massive Extra-solar planet discovered using X-ray observations

  • A bunch of scientists from India have discovered indications of a massive planet orbiting a low mass X-ray binary star system which is now named as MXB 1658-298.
  • The planet was discovered by scientists from Raman Research Institute, University of Delhi and Bangalore. The results of the discovery have been published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Sports
P V Sindhu wins Women’s singles champion of India Super Series tournament

  • Rio Olympics silver medalist P V Sindhu won India Super Series tournament championship on April 2, 2017 at Siri Fort Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. She conquered the Olympic champion Carolina Marin from Spain in straight sets 21-19, 21-16.
  • The men’s championship title was won by Viktor Axelsen from Denmark who beat Chou Tien-Chen from Taiwan.

NIRF 2017 Ranking announced by HRD Ministry – topped by IISc Bangalore

  • Mr. Prakash Javadekar – Union Human Resource Development Minister announced ‘India Ranking 2017’ based on National Institutional Ranking Framework. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore stood first in the overall category while Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad achieves its first rank in management. Also, Indian Institute of Technology Madras is at the top in engineering category.

Tapan Singhel has been re-appointed as Bajaj Allianz General CEO for five years

  • TapanSinghel has been re-appointed as MD and CEO for Bajaj Allianz General Insurance for a period of five years from April 1, 2017 to April 1, 2022.Also, TarunChugh has been appointed as MD and CEO of Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance

Ajey Jhankar – The Noted Scriptwriter passed away

  • Ajey Jhankar, the famous author, and filmmaker passed away on April 3, 2017. He was born on September 1, 1959 in Pune and he served as a Director of MM ActivSci-Tech Communications Pvt. Ltd from January 2000.He was also the writer of Marathi novel. Daily Current Affairs 3 april 2017
