1. Pejawar Mutt passes away
- The pontiff of Pejawar Mutt, Vishwesha Tirtha Swami passed away in Udupi.
- Pejavara Matha is one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi, which was started by Sri Adhokshaja Tirtha, who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of Hindu philosophy. Till date, 32 Swamijis have headed this matha.
2. Revival plan of BSNL & MTNL
- A Group of Ministers (GoM) has been constituted to to expedite Rs 69000 crore revival plan of BSNL & MTNL.
- The GoM includes Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
3. Dhanu Jatra Festival
- ‘Dhanu Jatra’ Festival has begun at Bargarh in western Odisha.
- Dhanu Jatra is considered as the largest open-air theatre of the world.
- It is based on the mythological story of Lord Krishna and his demon uncle King Kansa.
International News
1. Da Chen passes away
- ‘Colours of the Mountain’ author Da Chen of China has passed away.
- Da Chen was a Chinese author whose works included Brothers, China’s Son, Sounds of the River, Sword, and Colors of the Mountain. Brothers was awarded best book of 2006 by The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Miami Herald and Publishers Weekly.
2. Border Coordination Conference
- The 49th Border Coordination Conference between border guarding forces of India (BSF) and Bangladesh (BGB) was held in New Delhi.
- Director General of Border Security Force: Vivek Kumar Johri.

1. Capital Infusion in Allahabad Bank, IOB & UCO Bank
- GoI will infuse Rs 8,655 crore into Allahabad Bank, IOB & UCO Bank
- The infusion will be done for preferential allotment of shares.
- A preferential issue is an issue of shares or of convertible securities by listed companies to a select group of persons under Section 81 of the Companies Act, 1956 which is neither a rights issue nor a public issue. This is a faster way for a company to raise equity capital.
2. New semi-closed prepaid payment instrument
- RBI has introduced a new semi-closed prepaid payment instrument (PPI) which can be used for the transaction of goods and services up to a limit of Rs 10,000.
- There are currently three kinds of PPIs allowed by RBI: closed system, semi-closed and open PPIs.
- Prepaid payment instruments are methods that facilitate purchase of goods and services against the value stored on such instruments.
- The value stored on such instruments represents the value paid for by the holder, by cash, by debit to a bank account, or by credit card.
3. Mastercard’s New Acquisition
- Mastercard has announced an agreement to acquire RiskRecon.
- RiskRecon is one of the providers of data analytics solutions and artificial intelligence focused on cyber-risk and security
- Mastercard Incorporated is an American multinational financial services corporation headquartered in the Mastercard International Global Headquarters in Purchase, New York, United States. The Global Operations Headquarters is located in O’Fallon, Missouri, United States, a municipality of St. Charles County, Missouri.

1. World Women’s Rapid Chess Championship
- Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy wins the World Women’s Rapid Chess Championship held in Moscow, Russia.
- Koneru Humpy is only the second Indian to win the rapid gold in the current format after Vishwanathan Anand who won it in 2017.
2. 2022 Commonwealth Games
- Indian Olympic Association has withdrawn its boycott call for the 2022 Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham.
- The cause of the boycott call was exclusion of shooting from the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
