1. Mobile App ‘ReUnite’

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kailash Satyarthi, along with Suresh Prabhu launched a mobile application called ‘ReUnite’ which helps to track and trace missing and abandoned children in India.

2. 37th WORLD UNESCO World Heritage Site of India

India’s nomination of the “Victorian and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai ” has been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The decision was taken at the 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO at Manama in Bahrain.
Rajabai Clock Tower as part of the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai. This makes Mumbai city the second city in India after Ahmedabad to be inscribed on the World Heritage List.

3. 1st July 2018 to be celebrated as ‘GST day’

Government of India is celebrating the 1st Anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) coming into force, here tomorrow. GST was launched on the 1st July, 2017 .
The 27 meetings of GST Council taken by consensus GST – ‘ONE NATION, ONE TAX, ONE MARKET’- binds India into an Economic Union, promotes ‘Make in India’ and has improved ‘Ease of Doing Business’.

4. Modi reviews progress towards holistic development of islands

NITI Aayog made a presentation on the elements of holistic development, including key infrastructure projects, digital connectivity, green energy, desalination plants, waste management, promotion of fisheries, and tourism-based projects.
The Union Government had constituted the Islands Development Agency on June 1st, 2017. 26 islands have been listed for holistic development.

International News

1. India Pledges $5 million For UN Palestinian Aid Agency

A total of 20 countries, including India, announced contributions to the 2018 budget of the UNRWA for Palestine Refugees in the Near East during a meeting.

2. World’s lightest satellite named ‘Jaihind-1S’

NASA is set to launch world’s lightest satellite named ‘Jaihind-1S’. It has been developed by Indian engineering students of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai
The satellite developed by first year students team headed by Harikrishnan KG will be launched by NASA in August. The 4cm ‘cube’ satellite ‘Jaihind-1S’ has been built with a 3D printed outer casing from polylactic acid (PLA) nylon material, making it lighter than a medium sized egg, at just 33.39 grams.

3. PASSEX 2018

The navies of India and Indonesia participated in Passage Exercise (PASSEX).
Indian Naval ships INS Shakti and INS Kamorta undertook Passage Exercise with Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Madidihang (855).

4. Cost Of Living Survey for Expats

The Cost of Living Survey published by global personnel consultants Mercer, Mumbai continues to be the most expensive city in India to live in for expatriates, ahead of global peers Washington and Melbourne.
Hong Kong is ranked as the world’s costliest city .

Business News

1. Life Insurance Corporation’s (LIC) to has the acquisition of up to 51% stake in state-run lender IDBI Bank

Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has approved Life Insurance Corporation’s (LIC) proposal to the acquisition of up to 51% stake in state-run lender IDBI Bank.
The LIC is expected to invest Rs 10,000-13,000 crore in tranches in IDBI. The deal will also require approval from the SEBI.

2. LG has announced the appointment of Koo Kwang-mo as its CEO

LG has announced the appointment of Koo Kwang-mo, the 40-year-old son of the family-controlled conglomerate’s late Chairman Koo Bon-moo, as its CEO.
LG Electronics Inc. is a South Korean multinational electronics company headquartered in Yeouido-dong, Seoul, South Korea, and is part of the LG Group, employing 82,000 people working in 119 local subsidiaries worldwide.

3. Swadhaar FinServe Acquired By RBL Bank

RBL Bank has raised its stake in Swadhaar Finserve Pvt. Ltd to 100% from 60.48%.
Swadhaar FinServe started operations as a non-banking finance company in 2008.

4. Tata Steel to venture with Thyssenkrupp,Russia

The joint venture is the largest deal in Europe’s steel industry since the takeover of Arcelor by Mittal in 2006
To be named Thyssenkrupp Tata Steel, the joint venture will have about 48,000 workers and about 15 billion euros in sales

1. Janardan Singh Gehlot as the President of the federation

The International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) has appointed Janardan Singh Gehlot as the President of the federation for the next four years.
The announcement was made during the Annual General Congress (AGC) of the IKF in Dubai.

2. Sprinter Dutee Chand set a new national record

India sprinter Dutee Chand set a new national record in the women’s 100-metre race when she clocked 11.29 seconds at the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships being held in Guwahati, Assam.
Dutee has qualified for the Asian Games 2018 in 100m and 200m

3. Harmanpreet Kaur to be selected to play in England’s Super League T20 tournament

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur became the second Indian cricketer after T20I vice-captain Smriti Mandhana to be selected to play in England’s Super League T20 tournament.
She was the first Indian to play in Australia’s Big Bash T20 league, has signed for Lancashire Thunder.
