1. National Salt Satyagraha Memorial
- National Salt Satyagraha Memorial is inaugurated at Dandi, Gujarat by PM Modi.
- ‘National Salt Satyagraha Memorial’ entrusted to Central Public Works Department by the Ministry of Culture, GOI.
2. Swadesh Darshan Project
- The First Project under the Swadesh Darshan Project is inaugurated by KJ Alphons, Union Minister for Tourism at the Zero Point, Gangtok, Sikkim.
- Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas, the area has a dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain, 8,586m Kangchenjunga.

3. Maritime Conclave 2019
- Maritime Conclave 2019 will be held in Bhubaneswar in the East Coast Railway Stadium.
- It will be organised by the Union Ministry of Shipping and the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in association with CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM.
4. National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP)
- Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has launched the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP).
- The aim is to attract talent and strengthen higher Agricultural Education in India.
- It will be funded by the World Bank and the Indian Government on a 50:50 basis.
International News
1. Carnot Prize
- THE CARNOT PRIZE is the Kleinman Center’s annual recognition of distinguished contributions to energy policy through scholarship or practice.
- It is named in memory of French scientist Sadi Carnot, who in 1824 published Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire, which became the basis for the second law of thermodynamics. Carnot recognized that the power of the steam engine would “produce a great revolution” in human development.
- Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has been awarded the Carnot Prize by the University of Pennsylvania.
2. Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development
- ‘Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development’ is set up by Italian Government in partnership with the United Nations to fight climate change and boost sustainable development in Africa.
- It is located near the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in central Rome.
3. World Leprosy Eradication Day 2019
- World Leprosy Eradication Day 2019 was observed on 30th January.
- Leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is a contagious infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae.
- Theme :- ‘Ending Discrimination, Stigma, and Prejudice’

1. South India MSME Summit 2019
- South India MSME Summit 2019 will be held at Bengaluru.
- The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, a branch of the Government of India, is the apex body for the formulation and administration of rules, regulations and laws relating to micro, small and medium enterprises in India.
2. Artisan Speak Event
- Ministry of Textiles and Government of India has launched ‘Artisan Speak Event’ at Elephanta Caves, Maharashtra.
- It will strengthen the handlooms and textiles sector of India and showcase the GI Textiles of India.
3. DIPP is now ‘Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’
- The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has been renamed as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
- It was established in the year 1995, and was reconstituted in the year 2000 with the merger of Department of Industrial Development. The department functions under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
4. Bengaluru International Film Festival
- The eleventh edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on February 21.
- Bengaluru (also called Bangalore) is the capital of India’s southern Karnataka state. The center of India’s high-tech industry, the city is also known for its parks and nightlife. By Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha is a Neo-Dravidian legislative building. Former royal residences include 19th-century Bangalore Palace, modelled after England’s Windsor Castle, and Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, an 18th-century teak structure.

- Haryana Hammers and Punjab Royals are in the Final of Pro Wrestling League.
- The Pro Wrestling League is an Indian sport wrestling promotion that was established in 2015. It was initiated by ProSportify and Wrestling Federation of India.

2. Tata Steel Masters
- Magnus Carlsen has won the Tata Steel Masters title held in Wijk aan Zee, The Netherlands.
- Viswanathan Anand finished at third point.
- Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess grandmaster and the current World Chess Champion. He is a two-time World Rapid Chess Champion and four-time World Blitz Chess Champion
3. Round-The-World Yacht Race
- French sailor Jean-Luc Van Den Heede has won the round-the-world yacht race after 212 days alone at sea.
- He became the oldest to complete the 30,000-mile Golden Globe race.
- The 2018 Golden Globe Race is a sailing race around the world which started on 1 July 2018 from Les Sables-d’Olonne, France. This year’s race celebrates the 50th anniversary of the original Sunday Times Golden Globe Race and features yachts similar to those used at that time.
