1. Inaugural Conference of the G20’s Global Financial Architecture Working Group in Chandigarh
- Chandigarh is set to host the inaugural conference of the G20 Overseas Financial Architecture Working Group from January 30-31, 2023, under the G20 Indian Presidency.
- Opening remarks were provided by Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture, and Pashupati Kumar Paras, Minister of Food Processing Industries.
- The discussions during the two-day conference will be spearheaded by the Overseas Financial Architecture Working Group’s co-chairs from France and Korea, along with the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India.
- One of the G20 Finance Track’s primary work streams, the Working Group, aims to improve the framework governing the international financial system and address challenges faced by developing nations.
- The Working Group will convene again in March, June, and September to discuss priorities set during India’s G20 Presidency.

2. Arun Kohli Appointed as the New National Head for India at Morgan Stanley
- Arun Kohli will now lead Morgan Stanley’s operations in India.
- He replaces Sanjay Shah, who is retiring from the role.
- Prior to this, after a 15-year tenure with the company, Kohli was promoted to COO of the firm’s EMEA division.
- Between 2007 and 2012, he functioned as the company’s MD for strategy and execution.
- James P. Gorman holds the position of CEO at Morgan Stanley, based in New York, USA.
International News
3. UNESCO Identifies Odesa, Ukraine as a World Heritage Site in Danger
- Odesa, in Ukraine, has been designated a World Heritage site at risk due to the threats from Russian air raids.
- Founded by Empress Catherine, Odesa is a historically significant port city on the Black Sea. In July 2022, several windows of the Museum of Fine Arts were damaged.
- UNESCO, headquartered in Paris, was established on November 16, 1945, with a mandate to foster global education, science, and culture. It currently has 193 member nations and is headed by French national Audrey Azoulay.

4. Air Marshal AP Singh Appointed as Vice Chief of Air Force
- Air Marshal Amanpreet Singh is the new Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), succeeding Air Marshal Sandeep Singh.
- Currently, he serves as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief at the Central Air Command headquarters in Prayagraj, India.
- Commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF on December 21, 1984, Air Marshal AP Singh has flown over 4,900 hours across various aircraft types and is a qualified instructor.

5. ISRO’s Aditya-L1 Mission Scheduled for Launch in July 2023
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the Aditya-L1 mission in July 2023.
- The main payload, the Visible Line Emission Coronagraph (VELC), was recently transferred from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) to ISRO.
- Aditya L1, India’s first space-based solar mission, targets the Lagrangian Point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system. The mission, equipped with seven onboard instruments, aims to study the sun’s photosphere, chromosphere, and corona, thereby providing insights into solar activity and space weather.
- ISRO was established on January 15, 1969, with its headquarters in Bangalore, Karnataka. The agency launched its first satellite, Aryabhata, on April 19, 1975, and is currently headed by its tenth chairman, S. Somanath.
