National & International Appointments
1. Rashmi Shukla Assumes Position as Sashastra Seema Bal’s Director-General
- Rashmi Shukla, an IPS officer from the 1988 batch belonging to the Maharashtra cadre, has been selected as the director-general of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Her tenure will extend until her retirement on 30th June 2024.
- Before this, she was serving in the position of Additional Director General at CRPF.
- The SSB, founded in 1963 and headquartered in New Delhi, is India’s border force responsible for guarding its boundaries with Nepal and Bhutan.
2. Abhishek Sankar Bagchi Takes Over as Karnataka Bank’s CFO
- Karnataka Bank has chosen Abhishek Sankar Bagchi as its new chief financial officer (CFO), filling the position on a contractual basis.
- He succeeds Muralidhar Krishna Rao, who concluded his term on March 1, 2023.
- Bagchi brings with him an extensive experience of over 18 years in areas like RBI reporting, financial planning, and taxation, among others. Before this, he was the CFO and Head of Finance at NSDL Payments Bank since September 2017.

3. NTPC Debuts Air Cooled Condenser in India
- NTPC has introduced India’s inaugural air-cooled condenser, located at the North Karanpura supercritical thermal power station in Jharkhand.
- This innovation stands as a testament to water preservation efforts.
- The Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) is environmentally progressive as it uses roughly one-third of the water a traditional Water Cooled Condenser (WCC) would utilize.
- NTPC celebrated the commercial launch of the plant’s first 660 MW unit at North Karanpura (3X660 MW) on March 1, 2023.

4. World Wildlife Day Observed on 3rd March
- March 3rd globally resonates with the celebration of wild fauna and flora, marking the UN’s World Wildlife Day. The inception of this day can be traced back to 1973, which is also the founding date of CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
- This day annually serves as a reminder to appreciate and spread cognizance about the earth’s diverse wildlife.
