1. NASA astronaut Christina Koch’s Historic Journey Around the Moon
- NASA has announced Christina Koch as the first female astronaut selected for the Artemis II mission.
- She will be accompanied by Victor Glover, the inaugural Black astronaut, Reid Wiseman, both representing NASA, and Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).
- The mission involves a lunar orbit and a subsequent 10-day return trip to Earth.
- This venture is a segment of NASA’s Artemis initiative, targeting the landing of the first woman and the succeeding man on the moon by 2024.
Banking & Finance
2. Transfer of ₹35,012 crore in Unclaimed Deposits by Public Sector Banks to RBI
- Public sector banks (PSBs) have moved ₹35,012 crore of unclaimed deposits to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as of February 2023.
- These funds have been inactive for over ten years.
- SBI has the highest at ₹8,086 crore, succeeded by PNB with ₹5,340 crore, and Canara Bank at ₹4,558 crore.
- MoS for Finance, Bhagwat Karad, shared in Lok Sabha that these unclaimed funds are spread across 10.24 crore accounts.

3. Bahrain’s Initiative of ‘Golden Licence’ to Entice Major Investment Projects
- Bahrain’s administration has launched the ‘Golden Licence’ scheme to foster investments and employment opportunities.
- This program extends efficient services and benefits to both domestic and overseas enterprises that undertake significant investment projects in Bahrain.
- Companies with strategic initiatives surpassing US$50 million or those creating more than 500 jobs in Bahrain are eligible for this license.

4. Richard Verma’s Confirmation by the US Senate as Deputy Secretary of State
- The United States Senate has ratified Indian American Richard Verma as Deputy Secretary of State, overseeing Management and Resources.
- At present, Verma holds the position of Chief Legal Officer and leads Global Public Policy at Mastercard.
- His earlier roles include serving as the US Ambassador to India from January 2015 to January 2017 and assuming pivotal roles in several entities, such as Vice Chairman of The Asia Group.
