1. Memorandum of Understanding between NADA India and SARADO
- In New Delhi, an understanding has been established between NADA India and the South Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organization (SARADO).
- NADA India and SARADO have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen anti-doping measures in sports at a regional level.
- The MoU was signed by Ritu Sain, the Director-General & CEO of NADA India, and Mohamed Mahid Shareef, the Director-General of SARADO. The signing was witnessed by Anurag Singh Thakur, the Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports.
- SARADO’s membership includes anti-doping entities from countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

2. Chandigarh University’s Achievement in QS World University Ranking
- Chandigarh University (CU) has secured the premier position among Indian private universities as per the recent Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking.
- Of the 2963 institutions evaluated, CU’s ranking now stands between 771 and 780, showing an improvement from its previous position of 801-1001. For this year, CU has achieved a score of 15.2.
- In the 20th edition of the QS rankings, out of the 45 Indian universities listed, CU occupies the 20th spot. On a regional scale, CU is ranked 233rd in Asia.
- While IIT Bombay retains the top position among public universities in the 2024 QS rankings, Chandigarh University has marked its spot as the top private institution.
- CU was also recognized as the 27th best institution in the NIRF Rankings 2023.
- Last year, CU achieved a significant milestone by being the youngest university to be ranked among the Top 200 in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023.

3. Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Peace Index 2022
- According to the ‘Global Peace Index 2022’ published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), Afghanistan has been identified as the least peaceful country for the fifth consecutive year.
- The countries that follow Afghanistan in the ranking include Yemen, Syria, Russia, and South Sudan. These nations have maintained their positions among the least peaceful for the past three years.
- India holds the 126th spot out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index.
- Conversely, countries like Iceland, Denmark, and Ireland are recognized for being the most peaceful nations globally.
- Other global rankings released recently spotlight Denmark leading the Global Competitiveness Index 2023, while Vienna, Austria is acclaimed as the city with the highest liveability, topping the Global Liveability Index 2023.

4. Meta’s Upcoming Microblogging Application – ‘Threads’
- Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has announced its plans to launch ‘Threads’, a text-based chat application originating from Instagram.
- Users will have the advantage of retaining their existing Instagram usernames and continue following their current Instagram accounts on the new platform.
- The decision to introduce ‘Threads’ comes in the wake of Twitter announcing certain restrictions on its platform.

5. Aditi Tatkare’s Ministerial Appointment in Eknath Shinde-led Government
- Aditi Tatkare has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first female minister in the newly-formed government led by Eknath Shinde.
- She was appointed as the Minister of State for Water Resources and Medical Education on July 3, 2023.
- Previously, she played pivotal roles in the MVA government from 2019 to 2022, managing departments like tourism and industries.
- As a representative of the Nationalist Congress Party, Tatkare has been a part of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 2009. She is the descendant of former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde.

6. SpaceX’s Mission to Propel Euclid Space Observatory
- SpaceX has accomplished the launch of the Euclid observatory on behalf of the European Space Agency, targeting a location 1.5 million km away.
- The observatory, named after the famous Greek mathematician Euclid, is estimated to embark on its remarkable six-year research mission after approximately three months.
- The primary objective of this mission is to procure comprehensive measurements of dark energy and dark matter.

7. Agreement between Ministry of Defence and MDL for INS Shankush
- The Ministry of Defence has finalized a contract worth Rs 2,725 crore with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) to refurbish and certify the life of INS Shankush, a formidable Indian Navy submarine.
- This Medium Refit with Life Certification (MRLC) initiative aims to enhance the submarine’s combat capabilities.
- Following the successful completion of the MRLC, INS Shankush is expected to be reincorporated into the Navy’s active fleet. The delivery is anticipated in 2026 with enhanced combat capabilities.

- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has entered into a partnership with Dream11 for a sponsorship tenure spanning three years.
- Dream11 has succeeded Byju to become the primary sponsor just before the crucial Test series against the West Indies.
- Byju had previously taken over from Oppo as the team’s sponsor in 2019 for a span of three years, which later got extended until 2023. Now, Dream11, a globally renowned fantasy sports platform, assumes this prestigious role.
