- Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal has been recognized by Forbes as the highest-earning athlete of 2023, following his move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
- Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr, set to run until 2025, is worth £175 million annually.
- Over the last year, he garnered $136m (£108.7m), while Lionel Messi from Argentina is close behind, earning $130 million. Kylian Mbappé, LeBron James, and Canelo Álvarez follow in the rankings.

2. Indian Unemployment Peaks in April 2023
- As per data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India’s unemployment reached a four-month high at 8.11% in April, seeing an increase from 7.8% in March 2023.
- The urban unemployment rate rose to 9.81%, while rural unemployment saw a slight decrease to 7.34% in April.
- This unemployment surge is attributed to a higher labor force participation, which increased from 39.7% to 41.9% in March.
- A month-by-month breakdown for 2023 shows unemployment rates at 7.14% in January, 7.45% in February, 7.80% in March, and 8.11% in April.
3. India-Israel Forge R&D Cooperation
- India has entered into a partnership with Israel through an MoU emphasizing Industrial Research and Development. The collaboration will span sectors including aerospace, electronics, engineering, environment, mining, chemicals, petrochemicals, and agriculture.
- The agreement was initiated between India’s CSIR and Israel’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development in New Delhi.

4. Ajay Banga to Lead World Bank
- The World Bank’s executive board, comprised of 25 members, has officially appointed Indian-American Ajay Banga as its president, with his tenure starting June 2, 2023.
- Nominated for the position by US President Joe Biden in February 2023, Banga is currently the vice chairman at the US-based investment firm General Atlantic LP.
- Before this role, he served as the president and CEO of Mastercard. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2016.

5. Exercise BULAND BHARAT at High Altitude Ranges
- The Eastern Theatre witnessed the execution of Exercise BULAND BHARAT, a combined surveillance and firepower drill.
