1. Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes
- Bhagwan Lal Sahni has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes.
- India’s National Commission for Backward Classes is a Constitutional body under India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment established on 14 August 1993. It was constituted pursuant to the provisions of the National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993.
2. PowerTex India scheme
- Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani has launched a comprehensive programme for the the development of knitting and knitwear sector under the PowerTex India scheme.
- PowerTex India is a three-year comprehensive scheme for Powerloom Sector Development.The PowerTex India scheme aims to boost common infrastructure and modernisation of the power loom sector in the country.
3. Gram Samridhi Yojana
- It is launched by Ministry of Food Processing Industries in order to strengthen the unorganised food processing sector concentrated in rural areas.
- Gram Samridhi Yojana is a Rs 3000 crore scheme funded by World Bank (Rs 1500 crore) and Indian Government (Rs 1000 crore).
4. CISF created the Guinness World Record
- Central Industrial Security Force has created the Guinness World Record for ‘longest single line bicycle parade (moving)’ in Noida.
- CISF personnel rode 1327 bicycles non-stop in a single line.
International News
1. Missile Systems Award 2019
- DRDO India Chief G Satheesh Reddy has been conferred the Missile Systems Award 2019.
- Missile Systems Award 2019 is presented by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
- The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is a professional society for the field of aerospace engineering. The AIAA is the U.S. representative on the International Astronautical Federation and the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences.
2. RCEP Inter-Sessional Ministerial Meet
- The 7th RCEP Inter-Sessional Ministerial Meeting was held in Cambodia.
- Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership is a proposed free trade agreement between the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the six Asia-Pacific states with which ASEAN has existing free trade agreements.
- The 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) and the 6 Asia-Pacific states with which ASEAN has existing free trade agreements (Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand).
3. 2019 National STEM Education Award
- Indian-American teenager Kavya Kopparapu has been conferred with the 2019 National STEM Education Award.
- The Award is for her invention designed to improve treatments for glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer.
4. Global Consumer Confidence Survey
- India has topped the chart from 3rd quarter and in the 4th quarter of 2018 India’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) with a score of 133.
- Global Consumer Confidence Index increased one point to 107 in fourth quarter of 2018, the highest in 14 years.

1. Chairman of Tea Board
- PK Bezbaruah has been appointed as the chairman of Tea Board for a period of 3 years.
- The Tea Board of India is a state agency of the Government of India established to promote the cultivation, processing, and domestic trade as well as export of tea from India. It was established by the enactment of the Tea Act in 1953 with its headquarters in Kolkata.
2. IDBI Bank to handle Import-Export with Iran
- Govt. has sectioned IDBI Bank to handle Import-Export transactions with Iran.

3. Construction-Technology Year
- PM Modi has declared ‘April 2019-March 2020’ as Construction-Technology Year.
- The support of the private sector in fulfilling the Government’s mission of providing brick house to every Indian by 2022.
4. 3% digital tax on Internet Giants
- France Govt. is planning to levy 3% digital tax on 30 Internet Giants including Google to ensure ‘fiscal justice’.
- It was announced by French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire.
Sports News
1. Manchester City FC to invest in Mumbai City FC
- The owners of Manchester City, City Football Group (CFG), are on the lookout to invest in Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Mumbai City FC.
- The City Football Group is a holding company that administers association football clubs under the ownership of Abu Dhabi United Group. It is part-owned by Chinese firms China Media Capital and CITIC Capital. The company’s flagship club is Manchester City F.C. in the English Premier League.
2. Imran Tahir to retire after 2019 World Cup
- South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir will retire after 2019 Cricket World Cup.
- The South African national cricket team, nicknamed the Proteas, is administered by Cricket South Africa. South Africa is a full member of the International Cricket Council with Test, One Day International and Twenty20 International status.
3. 2022 Asian Games
- Cricket is included in ‘2022 Asian Games’ to be held in Hangzhou, China.
- This decision was taken at the Olympic Council of Asia’s General Assembly.
- Cricket was featured in 2010 and 2014.
