1. Rajya Sabha Members Retirement
- A significant change in India’s political scene is expected as 68 members of the Rajya Sabha, including prominent figures like Manmohan Singh and Jaya Bachchan, and nine Union ministers, are due to retire in 2024.
2. Punjab’s Accident Sites Mapping
- Punjab has taken a pioneering step by being the first Indian state to comprehensively map all 784 accident-prone locations using the advanced Mappls App, a product of MapMyIndia. The Punjab Police and MapMyIndia have collaborated to integrate real-time traffic information and warnings into the Mappls App, aiming to improve road safety.
3. Defence Contracts Worth Rs 802 Crore
- The Indian Ministry of Defence has made a significant stride towards self-sufficiency in defence production by finalizing two major contracts worth Rs 802 crore. These contracts are for acquiring 697 Bogie Open Military Wagons and 56 Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment Mark II from Indian companies.
4. Record FPI in Indian Equities
- Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) have set a new record by investing a massive 661.35 billion rupees ($8 billion) in Indian equities in December, as reported by National Securities Depository, pushing Indian stocks to unprecedented highs.
5. Adidas’s New GCC in Tamil Nadu
- Adidas is expanding its global footprint by setting up its first Asian Global Capacity Centre (GCC) outside China, in Tamil Nadu, India. This move highlights India’s emerging role as a preferred destination for multinational corporations to establish their GCCs, benefiting from the country’s vast software talent pool.
6. PRERANA Program by the Ministry of Education
- The Department of School Education & Literacy under the Ministry of Education introduces Prerana, an Experiential Learning program for students in classes IX to XII. This initiative focuses on leadership development and aligns with the values of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting respect for India’s cultural diversity and heritage.
7. PRITHVI VIGYAN Scheme Launch
- The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has launched PRITHVI (PRITHvi VIgyan), a comprehensive Earth sciences scheme by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, with a budget of Rs. 4,797 crore for 2021-26. The scheme aims to enhance the monitoring and understanding of Earth’s various systems.
8. Tur Dal Procurement Portal by Amit Shah
- Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated a portal for tur dal procurement, allowing farmers to register and sell their produce to NAFED and NCCF at guaranteed minimum support or market prices. This initiative, which also transferred Rs 68 lakh to 25 farmers, is set to expand to other crops like urad, masoor, and maize.
9. India-Nepal Power Export Agreement
