1. India Triumphs Over Kuwait in SAFF Championship
- India clinched the SAFF Championship 2023 title by besting Kuwait with a score of 5-4 during the penalty shoot-out at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
- This marks India’s ninth victory in the SAFF Championships.
- The standout performance was by the goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh, who blocked the concluding penalty shot by the Kuwaiti team leader.
- In the preceding round, India surpassed Lebanon, whereas Kuwait outplayed Bangladesh with a score of 1-0.

2. Election Commission Unveils Online Portal for Financial Reporting
- The Election Commission has initiated a digital portal allowing political entities to submit their financial records electronically.
- Through this portal, political groups can now share their Contribution Reports, Annual Audited Accounts, and Election Expenditure Statements.
- The digital submission is in line with the stipulations of the Representation of People’s Act and for enhancing transparency.
- This method simplifies the submission process, ensuring punctuality and provides online data access to increase compliance. The system will also send reminders to political groups via SMS and email.
- Parties hesitant to utilize the online method must provide written justifications but can continue with physical report submission accompanied by CDs and Pen drives.

3. Launch of Bharat 6G Alliance by the Government
- The Department of Telecommunications introduced the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) to stimulate innovation in the upcoming wireless technology domain.
- B6GA serves as a hub for collaboration amongst private and public sector companies, academic institutions, research bodies, and standardization agencies.
- An official website for the Bharat 6G Alliance has been inaugurated.
- The Alliance aims to establish partnerships and coordinate efforts with other international 6G networks.

4. Iran Joins SCO as Permanent Member
- Iran was inducted as a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) during a virtual summit hosted by India.
- With Iran’s inclusion, the SCO now comprises nine member nations.
- The SCO was instituted in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
- Both India and Pakistan achieved permanent membership status in 2017.
- SCO’s administrative office is located in Beijing, China.

5. Chennai Introduces India’s Premier ‘Police Drone Unit’
- The Greater Chennai Police Department has launched a specialized ‘Drone Police Unit’ for enhanced aerial monitoring.
- The drones will assist in overseeing large assemblies, real-time vehicle data checks, and identification of suspects.
- The unit boasts nine drones under three categories: Quick Response Surveillance (6), Heavy Lift Multirotor (1), and Long-Range Survey Wing Plane (2).
- Equipped with AI capabilities, these drones can operate within a 5-10 km range from their control station. They can precisely evaluate crowd sizes, strategize crowd management, and, using ANPR cameras, match vehicle data in real-time.
- The Heavy Lift Drone, fitted with thermal imaging, can identify and rescue individuals stranded at sea, even during nighttime, by dropping life jackets.

6. Qu-Dongyu of China Retains Position as FAO Head
- QU Dongyu from China has been re-elected as the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for another term.
- Of the 182 votes cast, Qu secured 168.
- His renewed tenure will last from 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2027.
- His initial election as FAO Director-General was in 2019.
- The World Food Forum (WFF) was instituted in 2021 under Qu’s leadership.
7. Lt Gen MU Nair Takes Over National Cyber Coordination Centre’s Leadership
- Lt Gen MU Nair has been named the Chief of the National Cyber Coordination Centre, succeeding Lt Gen (ret.) Dr. Rajesh Pant.
- Lt Gen Nair previously held roles as the head of signal intelligence at the Army Headquarters and other significant positions.
- An esteemed National Defence Academy graduate, Nair possesses vast expertise in both national and global communication systems.
