1. Appointment of J P Chalasani as CEO of Suzlon Energy
- J P Chalasani has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Suzlon Energy, effective from April 5, 2023. He succeeds Ashwani Kumar, who vacated the role due to personal reasons.
- Chalasani had earlier served as the Group CEO of Suzlon from April 2016 to July 2020. He subsequently acted as a Strategic Advisor to the Suzlon Group and has held the role of Group CEO and Managing Director at Punj Lloyd.

2. India Justice Report (IJR) 2022 Rankings
- The India Justice Report (IJR) for 2022, spearheaded by Tata Trusts, positioned Karnataka as the leading state among 18 large and mid-sized states, each with a population surpassing one crore.
- Following Karnataka, Tamil Nadu claimed the second rank, succeeded by Telangana, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. The IJR report organizes states based on their population and assesses the justice system focusing on four primary pillars: Police, Prisons, Judiciary, and Legal aid.

3. India’s Election to the United Nations Statistical Commission
- India has secured a seat on the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) for a term starting on January 1, 2024, and concluding in 2028. Garnering an impressive 46 out of 53 votes, India outpaced competitors including South Korea, China, and the UAE.
- The UNSC stands as the apex body within the global statistical arena. India’s selection was achieved through a confidential ballot, with some nations being elected uncontested.
International News
4. Kenya’s First Operational Earth Observation Satellite Launch
- Kenya is set to launch its inaugural operational earth observation satellite, Taifa-1, on April 10, 2023. The satellite, a testament to Kenyan engineering, will be propelled into space by the SpaceX Falcon 9 from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
- Taifa-1 is poised to offer vital data on sectors like agriculture and food security. Egypt had the distinction of being the first African country to launch a satellite in 1998, while Kenya had earlier sent an experimental nanosatellite from the International Space Station in 2018.

6. Cope India Air Exercise 2023
- India, in collaboration with the United States, is gearing up for the Cope India air exercise scheduled from April 10 to 21, 2023, at the Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal.
- Japan will join the exercise in an observer capacity. The objective is to amplify operational skills and boost interoperability between the Indian and U.S. Air Forces. Japan had previously observed the Cope India exercise in December 2018.

7. Skyroot Aerospace’s Cryogenic Engine Test
- Skyroot Aerospace has triumphantly test-fired its advanced fully 3D-printed cryogenic engine, termed Dhawan-II, during a 200-second endurance trial.
- This engine, set to propel the Vikram-II rocket, uses Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquid Oxygen (LoX) as fuels, necessitating cryogenic storage and operational conditions. In 2022, Skyroot Aerospace made history as the first Indian private enterprise to launch a rocket into space.

8. Sanjita Chanu’s Ban by National Anti-Doping Agency
- Indian weightlifting champion Sanjita Chanu, a two-time victor at the Commonwealth Games, has been handed a four-year suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) following a failed dope test.
- Chanu was found positive for the banned substance Drostanolone Metabolite, as identified by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This ban follows her gold medal achievements at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2018 games in Gold Coast.
