National News

1. RBI’s New Dividend Payout Rules for Banks

  • The Reserve Bank of India is introducing stricter guidelines for bank dividend distributions, effective from fiscal 2024-25.
  • Banks must have a Net Non-Performing Asset ratio under 6% and a Capital Adequacy Ratio above 11.5% to be eligible for dividend payouts.
  • The proposed changes, open for public comment until January 31, 2024, include a revised dividend payout ratio calculation and a higher upper limit of 50% for banks with zero net NPA.

2. Assam’s Educational Assessment ‘Gunotsav 2024’

  • Assam is preparing for the fifth edition of ‘Gunotsav’ in 2024, aiming to assess around 40 lakh students in government schools.
  • This extensive evaluation is part of an effort to enhance educational quality and learning outcomes.

3. India’s ‘Bharat Park’ Trade Zone in UAE

5. Surge in India’s Forex Reserves

  • India’s foreign exchange reserves have increased by $2.759 billion, reaching $623.2 billion.
  • This rise follows a $4.471 billion gain the previous week, with the reserves previously peaking at $645 billion in October 2021.
  • The increase is primarily due to a rise in Foreign Currency Assets, which now stand at $551.615 billion.

6. World Day of War Orphans 2024

  • January 6, 2024, marks the World Day of War Orphans, emphasizing the plight of children affected by war.

7. UN’s GDP Growth Forecast for India
