1. JIMEX 23 – Bilateral Maritime Exercise between Japan and India in Visakhapatnam
- The 7th bilateral maritime exercise between Japan and India, named ‘JIMEX 23’, was conducted in Visakhapatnam from July 5-10, 2023, with the Indian Navy as the host.
- JIMEX, marking its 11th year since inception in 2012, strengthens naval collaboration between the two nations.
- Participating naval assets from the Indian side included INS Delhi (an indigenously built Guided Missile Destroyer), INS Kamorta (an indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette), and the fleet tanker INS Shakti.

2. RBI Proposes Recommendations to Enhance Rupee’s Global Position
- An internal committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed the inclusion of the rupee in the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket and revisions to the foreign portfolio investor (FPI) guidelines, with the goal of elevating the rupee’s global prominence.
- The recommendations were introduced by the Inter-Departmental Group (IDG) under the leadership of Radha Shyam Ratho.
- RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar had set up this group to assess the standing of the rupee on the international arena.

3. Anniversary Celebrations for Indian Naval Air Squadron 324 at INS Dega
- The Indian Naval Air Squadron 324 (INAS 324) at INS Dega in Visakhapatnam celebrated its first anniversary.
- INAS 324 is equipped with domestically manufactured ALH Mk III helicopters.
- Adhering to their motto “Nidruvith Dhrud Veeryvath” (meaning “Faithful, Tenacious, Fearless”), the squadron is instrumental in enhancing maritime surveillance and strengthening the security of the east coast.
- The squadron’s aircraft are also designed with detachable medical ICUs to provide critical medical aid during emergencies.

4. Global Online Transactions Expected to Hit $8.5 Trillion by 2026
- The Global Payments Report 2023, released by FIS, predicts a 9% compound annual growth rate for the global e-commerce industry from 2022 to 2026, estimating its value to reach over $8.5 trillion by 2026.
- For the fiscal year 2021-22, all regions, except for Europe, recorded growth rates surpassing 10%. The Middle East and Africa took the lead with a 21% increase.
- Out of 40 markets studied, 37 reported a year-on-year growth rate above 10% between 2021 and 2022.
- The forecast anticipates regions maintaining a mid-teens CAGR through 2026.

5. World Zoonoses Day Observance on July 6
- World Zoonoses Day, commemorated every year on July 6, celebrates the development of the first vaccine against a zoonotic disease – a disease that can be transmitted between animals and humans.
- The observance aims to heighten worldwide awareness about zoonotic diseases and the potential impacts they can have on both human and animal health.
- Zoonotic diseases, encompassing illnesses like influenza, Ebola, and the West Nile virus, are caused by various pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi. These diseases can lead to grave health issues and may even prove fatal.
- The origin of World Zoonoses Day can be traced back to 1885 when Louis Pasteur introduced an effective rabies vaccine. The day was officially recognized on July 6, 2007, marking Louis Pasteur’s 100th death anniversary.
