1. Karnataka Triumphs Over Meghalaya in Santosh Trophy Football

  • After a 54-year gap, Karnataka secured its 5th Santosh Trophy National Football Championship by besting Meghalaya with a 3-2 score. The final showdown occurred at King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
  • Half a century ago was the last time Karnataka bagged this title.
  • In a preceding match to the final, Services secured a 2-0 win against Punjab, claiming the third position.
  • West Bengal holds the record as the team with the most victories, having won the title 32 times.
  • The Santosh Trophy, established in 1941, is overseen by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

2. 2023’s Inaugural Naval Commanders’ Conference Commences

  • The 2023 Naval Commanders’ Conference kicked off its first edition on March 6, 2023.
  • The initial segment of the conference is being conducted on India’s premier indigenous aircraft carrier, the INS Vikrant, positioned off the coast of Goa in the Arabian Sea.
  • INS Vikrant witnessed a keynote address from Rajnath Singh.
  • The meeting offers a venue for Naval leaders to deliberate on vital military and strategic matters and to engage with top-tier government representatives.

3. Mauganj Emerges as Madhya Pradesh’s 53rd District

  • The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has proclaimed that Tehsil Mauganj, previously a part of Rewa district, will now be recognized as the state’s 53rd district.
  • The new district will encompass four tehsils: Mauganj, Hanumana, Naigarhi, and Devtalab, catering to a populace exceeding six lakhs.
  • In addition to this declaration, the Chief Minister initiated projects valued over Rs 738 crore, a significant portion being allocated for Mauganj.
  • Under the Sambal scheme, an assistance sum of Rs 605 crore was disbursed to the accounts of 27,310 beneficiaries.

4. Sashidhar Jagdishan’s Tenure Extended at HDFC Bank

  • HDFC Bank’s board has endorsed the continuation of Sashidhar Jagdishan as its CEO and managing director for another three-year term, starting 27 October 2023.
  • This decision awaits confirmation from both the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the bank’s stakeholders.
  • Sashidhar Jagdishan began his journey with the bank in 1996, served as the chief financial officer from 2008, and subsequently became the MD and CEO.

5. World Bank Pledges $1 Billion to Augment India’s Healthcare Infrastructure

  • The World Bank has committed to extending a $1 billion loan to India with the objective of bolstering its health amenities.
  • This financial aid will be partitioned into two distinct loans, each amounting to $500 million.
  • The funds are geared towards the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM) – an initiative rolled out in October 2021.
  • The financial assistance will predominantly benefit healthcare provisions in seven states: Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
