1. Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary
- Air India Chief Pradeep Singh Kharola has been appointed Civil Aviation secretary.
- Kharola, a 1985-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, was named the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India Ltd in November 2017.
2. Boori Boot Yollo festival
- Boori Boot Yollo festival is celebrated by Nyishi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.
- Boori Boot Yollo is observed in February every year to welcome spring and a successful harvest.
3. India’s first ‘career portal’ addressing the needs of SSC and HSC students
- India’s first ‘career portal’ for SSC and HSC students was launched in Rajasthan with the support of United Nations Children’s Fund.
- Govt. will also set-up Rajiv Gandhi Career Counselling Cell for adolescents and youths.
4. Atal Bhujal Yojana
- The World Bank has approved Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABHY), a Rs.6000 Crore scheme, for sustainable management of ground water with community participation.
- he funding pattern is 50:50 between Government of India and World Bank.
International News
1. Macedonia to join NATO
- Macedonia has signed an agreement to join NATO
- It will become the 30th member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
- NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an international alliance that consists of 30 member states from North America and Europe. It was established at the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April 1949
2. Trump with Kim Jong-un
- Donald Trump will hold the second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Vietnam.
- North Korea, officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia constituting the northern part of the Korean Peninsula, with Pyongyang the capital and the largest city in the country.

3. International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation
- International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation is a United Nations-sponsored annual awareness day that takes place on February 6.
- As part of the UN’s efforts to eradicate female genital mutilation. It was first introduced in 2003.
4. ‘Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together’
- Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb have signed a ‘Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together’.
- Pope Francis is the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State. Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope from outside Europe since the Syrian Gregory III, who reigned in the 8th century.
- Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed el-Tayeb is the current Grand Imam of al-Azhar and former president of al-Azhar University. He was appointed by the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, following the death of Mohamed Sayed Tantawy in 2010. He is considered to be one of the most moderate Sunni clerics in Egypt.

1. New CEO of Cognizant
- Cognizant has appointed Brian Humphries as CEO.
- He will replace Francisco D’Souza, who has been with the firm since 2007.
2. Facebook’s GOAL (Going Online As Leaders) Initiative
- ‘GOAL’ is Facebook’s digital skilling and mentorship initiative across 5 states (West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh) in India.
- The aim is to encourage tribal girls to become village-level digital young leaders for their communities.
3. GSAT-31
- GSAT-31 is India’s 40th communication satellite which has been launched by ISRO from French Guiana.

4. RBI’s 6th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy
- Reduce the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 25 basis points from 6.5 per cent to 6.25 per cent with immediate effect.
- The reverse repo rate under the LAF stands adjusted to 6.0 per cent
- The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 6.5 per cent.
- These decisions are in consonance with the objective of achieving the medium-term target for consumer price index (CPI) inflation of 4 per cent within a band of +/- 2 per cent, while supporting growth.

1. Hockey World Cup 2023
- Acc. to International Hockey Federation, India will present bids to host the next edition of the Hockey World Cup.
- It is presented for either men or women in the January 13 to 29, 2023 window.
2. Fastest fifty for India in Women’s T20Is
- Smriti Mandhana has scored to be the fastest fifty for India in Women’s T20Is.
- She scored a half century in 24 balls against New Zealand.
3. Grover Vineyards Inter- Club Golf Championship
- The 23rd Grover Vineyards Inter- Club Golf Championship will be held at the scenic United Services Club, Mumbai.
- Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
