1. Fourth Phase of GIAN Scheme Relaunched
- The Ministry of Education has resumed the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) in its fourth phase after eight years.
- The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) supports the scheme’s continuation following a comprehensive evaluation.
- Since its inception, GIAN has seen over ₹126 crore in expenditure and hosted 1,612 international faculty in India.
2. Inauguration of Dixon Technology’s New Facility
- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated Dixon Technology’s latest manufacturing unit in Noida.
- The plant, involving an investment of over ₹400 crore, aims to boost domestic smartphone production, including manufacturing Xiaomi smartphones.
- This initiative aligns with the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
3. India and China Decline COP28 Energy Pledge
- India and China have decided not to join the COP28 commitment to triple the world’s renewable energy capacity.
- However, 118 countries agreed to double their energy efficiency rate by 2030.
