1. Government Allocates Incentives for PLI Scheme for Drones & Drone Components:

  • In the fiscal year 2022-23, the government disbursed 30 crore rupees to beneficiaries as part of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Drones and Drone Components.
  • The Civil Aviation Ministry initiated this scheme in September 2021 to promote the domestic drone industry.
  • This move received widespread approval from academia and industry experts, and it also covers developers of drone-related software.

2. Kalikesh Singh Deo Appointed as NRAI President:

  • The Indian government has approved Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo’s appointment as the President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), following the directive from the Sports Ministry.
  • As per the National Sports Code, heads of national sports federations (NSFs) are restricted from holding office for more than 12 years. Raninder, the incumbent president, completed 12 years in office on December 29, 2022.

3. Aleksander Ceferin Re-elected as UEFA President:

  • Aleksander Ceferin, a Slovenian lawyer, was re-elected unopposed as the President of UEFA for a four-year term spanning 2023-27.
  • He first assumed the role of UEFA president in 2016, succeeding Michel Platini. His re-election underscores his leadership in European football.

4. Kenichi Umeda Appointed as MD of Suzuki Motorcycle India:

  • Kenichi Umeda is the new Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd, succeeding Satoshi Uchida, whose term as Managing Director ended.
  • Umeda is responsible for bolstering Suzuki Motorcycle India’s standing in both the Indian and global markets, drawing from his significant 27-year industry experience.

  • Otani succeeds Atsushi Ogata, who is returning to Shanghai, China. Otani leverages extensive expertise from his leadership positions within Honda Motor, Japan.

6. WTO Forecasts Global Trade Growth for 2023:

  • As per the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the global merchandise trade volume is projected to rise by 1.7% in 2023, up from the previous 1% estimate in October 2022.
  • This growth, albeit promising, falls short of the 2.7% seen in 2022, due to factors like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, high inflation, more rigid monetary policies, and financial uncertainties.

7. Cabinet Approves Indian Space Policy 2023:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet has sanctioned the Indian Space Policy 2023.
  • The policy delineates the roles and duties of ISRO, NewSpace India Limited, and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe).
  • This policy allows ISRO to concentrate on pioneering space technology research and promotes increased private sector participation in the space realm.
