1. Rejuvenation of 13 Railway Stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has digitally unveiled the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
  • This ambitious project intends to refurbish and upgrade 1,309 railway stations nationwide, aiming for a worldclass passenger experience.
  • To kickstart this venture, ₹25,000 crore has been allocated to rejuvenate 508 stations across various states, with ₹303 crore specifically designated for the modernization of 13 stations in the State.

2. Bihar’s Push for Rhino Conservation in Valmiki Tiger Reserve

  • The government of Bihar is forming a ‘Rhino Task Force’ to recommend steps for reinitiating the rhino conservation program at the Valmiki Tiger Reserve in the West Champaran district.
  • This move is in response to the notable growth in the tiger population in the reserve.
  • As of now, there is a single rhino in VTR and another 14 in Patna Zoo.
  • The formation of this task force intends to increase the rhino count in the reserve.

3. Iraq’s Significant Health Achievement: Eradication of Trachoma

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has acclaimed Iraq as the 18th nation to effectively eradicate trachoma, a public health concern.
  • This makes Iraq the fifth country in the WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region to reach this health milestone.
  • Additionally, Iraq is recognized as the 50th country worldwide to counteract at least one Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD).
  • Trachoma, an infectious eye disease, is triggered by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis, which primarily impacts the eye’s surface and its interior lining.

4. Launch of ‘Neerakshi’: India’s Pioneer Autonomous Underwater Vehicle for Mine Detection

  • The country has rolled out its firstever autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), christened “Neerakshi” which translates to “Water’s Eyes”.
  • This innovative equipment, meant for mine detection, was a joint venture between the Kolkatabased warship maker, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, and AEPL, an MSME entity.
  • Before its market introduction, the Indian defence forces, including the Navy, Coast Guard, and Army, will conduct trial runs.
  • This 2.15m AUV boasts an operational endurance of around four hours and can function up to a 300m depth.

5. HDFC Bank CEO Emerges as Top Earner in FY23

  • Sashidhar Jagdidhan, holding the reins as HDFC Bank’s CEO, emerged as the topearning bank CEO for the financial year 2023, with a compensation package surpassing ₹10.55 crore.
  • Having assumed the leadership role in late 2020, Jagdishan’s unparalleled leadership attributes have significantly contributed to the bank’s profitability.
  • Amitabh Chaudhary of Axis Bank and Sandeep Bakshi of ICICI Bank are among the other highearning CEOs, with remunerations of ₹9.75 crore and ₹9.60 crore respectively for FY23.

6. SAI Rolls Out ‘Halla Bol’ Film Series Under ‘Cheer4India’ Initiative

  • As part of the overarching ‘Cheer4India’ campaign, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has introduced a series of short films titled “Halla Bol”, spotlighting the stories of Asian Games contenders.
  • This initiative serves dual purposes: motivating the athletes for the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 and enlightening the nation’s youth about sports careers.
  • The inaugural episode featuring the celebrated Indian sportsperson, Neeraj Chopra, has garnered immense social media traction.
  • A dozen films in total are slated for release in the forthcoming weeks.

7. Commemorating Rabindranath Tagore’s Legacy on His Death Anniversary

  • August 7 stands as a solemn reminder of the passing of the literary genius and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
  • He donned multiple hats, including that of a poet, musician, novelist, painter, and dramatist, and left an indelible mark on Bengali arts.
  • Succumbing to health issues, Tagore departed on August 7, 1941, at 80. He was the maestro behind over 2,000 songs, forming a distinctive genre termed as “Tagore songs”.
  • His literary prowess spanned across eight novels, 84 stories, and countless poems, with two of his compositions gracing the national anthems of Bangladesh and India.
