1. IIT Madras Establishes a Campus in Tanzania
- IIT Madras, collaborating with the Ministry of External Affairs and Zanzibar’s Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, is set to open its first overseas campus in Tanzania. This major event was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi. The National Education Policy 2020 suggests that high-achieving Indian universities should explore opportunities overseas.

2. SALVEX Exercise’s Seventh Iteration Held in Kochi
- Kochi hosted the seventh SALVEX exercise, a joint venture between the Indian Navy and the US Navy, from June 26 to July 6, 2023. The naval forces presented their ships – India’s INS Nireekshak and the US’s USNS Salvor, supported by expert diving and EOD teams. The exercise aimed to hone the diving teams’ skills in areas like mine detection, neutralization, and salvage operations.

3. Taiwan to Initiate a New Center in Mumbai
- Taiwan is gearing up to launch a Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Mumbai, further strengthening its cooperative ties with India. Delhi and Chennai already house TECCs. Establishing another center in India’s financial capital is in line with major Taiwanese companies shifting their production bases from China to India. India has expressed keen interest in the facilities of top Taiwanese chip manufacturers, especially the globally acclaimed TSMC. Since the Chennai TECC’s inauguration in 2012, a considerable number of Taiwanese companies investing in India have preferred the southern states. Despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties between India and Taiwan, their trade relationship has been thriving. Taiwan’s capital is Taipei City, and it uses the New Taiwan dollar as its currency with Chen Chien-jen serving as its president.

4. Indian Team Shines at World Archery Youth Championship 2023
- At the World Archery Youth Championships, the Indian pair of Priyansh and Avneet Kaur bagged gold in the junior mixed team compound category, defeating Israel by 146-144. Manav Jadhav and Aishwarya Sharma added another feather to India’s cap by winning a bronze against Mexico in the cadet mixed compound division. The championship was held at the University of Limerick in Ireland from July 3 to 9.

5. World Chocolate Day Celebrated on 7th July
- World Chocolate Day, celebrated on July 7, is a day dedicated to all things chocolate. Chocolate lovers around the world indulge in their most loved chocolate treats, from plain chocolate bars and rich truffles to delectable cakes. This day commemorates chocolate’s introduction to Europe in 1550 and was officially recognized in 2009. Before its advent in Europe, chocolate was predominantly found in regions of South and Central America, such as Mexico.

6. J&K Introduces India’s Pioneer Chatbot for Mental Well-being
- Jammu & Kashmir marked the launch of India’s first-ever Tele-MANAS (Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States) chatbot on July 5, 2023. The project was initiated by J&K LG, Manoj Sinha. This advanced chatbot is designed to promptly assist individuals undergoing mental distress. Tele-MANAS operates using a two-tier system: the first layer includes State Tele MANAS cells, and the second provides specialists for direct consultations sourced from the District Mental Health Programme or Medical College resources.
