1. Vadhavan Port

  • Government of India has given its in-principle approval for setting up a new Major Port at Vadhavan near Dahanu in Maharashtra.
  • This will be 13th major port in India.

2. ‘The Pink City’ UNESCO World Heritage City

  • ‘The Pink City’ Jaipur has been certified by UNESCO as the World Heritage site.
  • The certification was done by the UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay during an event held in Jaipur.

  • Federation of Automobile Dealers Association will organise the eleventh edition of the Auto Summit 2020 in New Delhi.

International News

1. US President acquitted of all impeachment charges

  • US President Donald Trump has acquitted of all impeachment charges by US Senate.
  • It is on two articles of impeachment that are the abuse of power and obstruction to Congress.
  • USA Senate voted 52-48 to acquit him of abuse of power and 53-47 to acquit him of obstruction of Congress.

2. Children’s Protection Fund by British Asian Trust

  • Prince Charles of Britain has unveiled a new ‘Children’s Protection Fund’ for India as part of British Asian Trust.
  • American singer Katy Perry as the ambassador for the same.
  • Charles, Prince of Wales, is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

3. Global Intellectual Property Index 2019

  • India has been ranked 40th out of 53 countries on Global Intellectual Property Index 2019 by Statista.
  • The GIPC Index consists of five key sets of indicators to map the national intellectual property environment for 50 surveyed countries.
  • As of 2019, the leading country for the best intellectual property environment was the United States with an overall score of 42.66 points.

1. WhatsApp Pay

  • WhatsApp has received the approval from NPCI to expand its UPI project to 10 million users.
  • Unified Payments Interface is an instant real-time payment system developed by National Payments Corporation of India facilitating inter-bank transactions. The interface is regulated by the Reserve Bank of India and works by instantly transferring funds between two bank accounts on a mobile platform.

2. HAL with Israel Aerospace Industries

  • HAL has drafted a partnership pact with Israel Aerospace Industries to make advanced armed Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles.

3. Regulation of co-operative banks

  • Government of India has approved amendments to the Banking Regulation Act 1949 to empower RBI to have better control over urban co-operative banks and multi-state cooperative banks.
  • The Banking Regulation Act, 1949 is a legislation in India that regulates all banking firms in India. Passed as the Banking Companies Act 1949, it came into force from 16 March 1949.
  • Shaktikanta Das is the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

4. Amazon India with Eastern Railways

  • Eastern Railways has partnered with Amazon India to set up a pick-up kiosk at Sealdah railway station in Kolkata, West Bengal.

1. BBC Sportswoman of the year award

  • Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Shuttler PV Sindhu and Boxer Mary Kom will compete for the inaugural BBC Indian sportswoman of the year award after being nominated.
  • The British Broadcasting Corporation is a British public service broadcaster. Its headquarters are at Broadcasting House in Westminster, London. It is the world’s oldest national broadcaster, and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees.

2. Table Tennis Player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran

  • India’s number Table Tennis Player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has signed up for Japan’s professional table tennis league, T League.
  • Sathiyan Gnanasekaran is an Indian table tennis player, ranked in top 25 in the world as of May 2019. He was a member of the Indian team that took the bronze in the 2011 Junior World Championships. G Sathiyan has become India’s highest-ranked player in the latest International Table Tennis Federation rankings.
